How to make FSX look amazing on a low-end computer

Recommended Posts

Hey all,

I saw this YouTube video that caught my eye. (video shown below)

As you can see, the graphics are really awesome. Is there a way I can get the same graphics quality with my mid-2010 MacBook? (money is no object)

On FSX, I use the PMDG 737NGX and the Shader 3.0 mod.

Here are my specs:

Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit (4GB-RAMPatch-Multilingual-12.7.2010 installed)

Intel Mobile Core 2 Duo P8600 (2.4 gHz, 3072kb L2 cache)

NVIDIA GeForce 320M (integrated, 256MB of shared memory)

Crucial M4 512GB Solid State Disk (500MB/s read, 260MB/s write)

13.3-inch, LED backlit, glossy widescreen display (1280 × 800)

8GB PC3-8500 DDR3 SDRAM (1066 MHz)

Thanks for your help!

You really need a CPU running at 4 GHz plus before you start to see really good results. Mine's running OK at 3.8 ish.

A decent videocard with at least a gig of DRAM is also a good idea (prefereably Nvidia with FSX).

Agree with Word Not Allowed. Look in the Hardware forum and you'll see some similar questions and recommended systems that will run fsx well (some under $1000).

Best regards,

The closer you get to 4GHz on the CPU speed, the smoother FSX becomes. Also, 256MB of shared video memory is really insufficient.

My computer: ABS Gladiator Gaming PC featuring an Intel 10700F CPU, EVGA CLC-240 AIO cooler (dead fans replaced with Noctua fans), Asus Tuf Gaming B460M Plus motherboard, 16GB DDR4-3000 RAM, 1 TB NVMe SSD, EVGA RTX3070 FTW3 video card, dead EVGA 750 watt power supply replaced with Antec 900 watt PSU.
