AOTD for 12/5 - Okmok Caldera

Featured Replies

Shades of Hawaii!! Looks like Alaska has some caldera's too. Now we're going to hunt one.

Enjoy.

Thank you.

Long flight with 16 kt headwinds in low and threading weather, but I got it. Not where I expected it to be. Have fun!

I just had to go for this one right away. I thought I had seen this caldera before but not covered with snow on a flight from Nikolski to Dutch Harbor.

I saw some pretty sights on my hunt also.

Look at the colors in the clouds.

Also look at the reflections of the colors in the windscreen. Only MS Flight.

Does this look like a crater? I think so.

But guess what? It's not the one we're looking for. It's too small and Okmok mountain isn't present.

Up ahead it looks like the rim of a caldera. What do you think? Could this be it?

Looking better now.

Yep, this is the one.

I did take the long way around too. I wanted to see the terrain in the daytime as normally I'm flying over this at night. I'm impressed at how the developers depict the shadows and the fact that all the rocks and cliff faces aren't covered in snow. It makes it look more realistic.

Thank you.
