December 5, 201213 yr Hi There, I have been having a sporadic issue whereby for no reason my FPS will drop from a locked 30 to below 10. What normally happens is the screen suddenly goes black then the FPS drop happens. I normally fly in VC using EZDOK. The strange thing is that if I hit ALT + Enter then go back to full screen it normally resolves the problem. Sometimes I just have to change to a different view then back again which can also clear the problem. I normally fly the excellent PMDG 737NGX but it has also happened a couple of times with stock MS aircraft. I had over clocked my Asus GTX 660TI and thought that was the problem but this afternoon I had the same thing happen with the GPU on normal settings. It is more annoying than anything because most of the time the whole sim runs as smooth as silk. Has anyone seen this before or can point me in the direction of what could possibly be causing this. December 9, 201213 yr Hey Richard it seems to be a driver issue. What nvidia driver are you on ? Are there any heating issues ? Can u back up your fsx.cfg and delete it and let fsx create a new one to check if it happens again. Clinton Royston Fernandes. Vabb-Mumbai India.
December 9, 201213 yr Author Hi Clint, I am on Nvidia 306.97, I see there are some new drivers so I will maybe give them try. I definitely don't have any heat issues, my antec 920 water cooler does an amazing job. I am over clocked to 4655 and I can play FSX for hours and my CPU temp sits around 40 degrees celsius. I invested a fair amount of time researching the home build and it is paying off. I was beginning to wonder if it was a driver conflict with either the settings in Nvidia inspector or maybe EZDOK. Like I said it doesn't happen all the time and when it does I can recover going to windowed modes and then back to full screen and after that it never normally happens again on the same flight. Thanks for your help, I will keep testing Richard Richard i7-12700K | Noctua NH-D15S Black Version | MSI Pro Z690 - A | 32 GB DDR4 3600 | Gigabyte Gaming OC 4090 | 1TB WD Blue NMVe (MSFS 2020) | 500 GB WD Black Gen 4 NVMe | 4TB WD Black Conventional | Fractal Design Torrent Case | Seasonic 1000W Gold Plus PSU | Thrustmaster Boeing Yoke | Honeycomb Throttle | Airbus Side Stick | Virpil Rudder Pedals | Sony X90K 55 Inch TV |
December 9, 201213 yr Hi.You could try upgrading the drivers. Also what i meant by heating was a possible heating of the gpu maybe ? Any which way do please check and report back.I do hope that your issue gets resolved. Clinton Royston Fernandes. Vabb-Mumbai India.
December 10, 201213 yr Author I haven't updated the drivers I started logging the GPU usage. The temp sits around 30 degrees celsius. The amount of memory being used seems to be around 700 mb out of the 2GB available on the card. Is there a way of increasing this? When the problem occurred I checked the log and one thing I noticed is that the memory used suddenly dropped to 71MB ! Really weird, I am going to try the drivers later Richard i7-12700K | Noctua NH-D15S Black Version | MSI Pro Z690 - A | 32 GB DDR4 3600 | Gigabyte Gaming OC 4090 | 1TB WD Blue NMVe (MSFS 2020) | 500 GB WD Black Gen 4 NVMe | 4TB WD Black Conventional | Fractal Design Torrent Case | Seasonic 1000W Gold Plus PSU | Thrustmaster Boeing Yoke | Honeycomb Throttle | Airbus Side Stick | Virpil Rudder Pedals | Sony X90K 55 Inch TV |
December 11, 201213 yr My guess is a .cfg error.I might be wrong. However could u rebuild your cfg after backing it up. Clinton Royston Fernandes. Vabb-Mumbai India.
December 11, 201213 yr If your system is overclocked, the cpu reverts to default clock if its temperature limit is exceeded. To find out if this is a hardware issue, run a cpu stress test and see what happens under heavy load. Do the same for the video card. If nothing happens, then the problem is fsx. As some have suggested, simply start with a new cfg. tc
December 11, 201213 yr Author I just had what could be a break through, before updating the drivers I reset my nvidia inspector settings to default. I decided to have a quick flight and never saw the issue. So I then flew randomly for about an hour again without issues. I just installed the new 310.70 and currently testing with just the single monitor, performance mode & 1/2 vsync set in inspector. flying from CYOW to CYYZ so far without any issues. I wonder if it could have been a setting in inspector causing this. I will continue to fly for the next day or so on these settings and see what happens Richard Richard i7-12700K | Noctua NH-D15S Black Version | MSI Pro Z690 - A | 32 GB DDR4 3600 | Gigabyte Gaming OC 4090 | 1TB WD Blue NMVe (MSFS 2020) | 500 GB WD Black Gen 4 NVMe | 4TB WD Black Conventional | Fractal Design Torrent Case | Seasonic 1000W Gold Plus PSU | Thrustmaster Boeing Yoke | Honeycomb Throttle | Airbus Side Stick | Virpil Rudder Pedals | Sony X90K 55 Inch TV |
