Once again Fs9 hits you with a surprise.Every so often I do a round the world flight in my trusty Bruce Benaway's 737, calculating fuel/altitude and airports within 737's range.Having flown from Glasgow right accross to Sydney I have enjoyed unexpected violent storms landing in Malaysia, seen some amazing default scenery, and generally have a nice relaxing time.On my Darwin to Sydney leg all is fine.Sydney approach has me well vectored to 34L. Cloud is around 1500ft bottom, and I am advised to follow MD-80 to runway.OK! No problem! Huh!As I break out of cloud runway and Md-80 are in clear view. MD-80 is followed all the way down at around 2 miles, I am cleared to land, MD-80 is cleared to land.Suddenly for reasons unknown MD-80 drops speed and decides to miss landing with me coming up his rear end! I am waved off, and we begin an incredible waltz around the sky above Kingsford Smith MD 80 in front me yards behind!! I am almost at stall speed, and cannot lose MD-80, so I let it play.We were both vectored around circuit, and landed eventually perfectly in position with each other and I followed MD-80 all the way to gate right next to my assigned gate!Pilot did not explain what the panic was about!(lol) Just wish video recorded the whole scene, but on replay AI Md-80 is not there.Great Fun!

that does sound interesting and cool to follow an MD80 around like that. i've been thinking about doing an around the world trip myself. are you flying your own route or using one of the flight plans that are around some of the websights? william

William,All my own routes. The hard part is the Australia to USA west coast.I have managed a few times through USAF bases on Atolls etc. Once ended up via Alaska with spoonful of fuel left! Its about slow climb to altitude (High) and having weight of aircraft just right. This time I shall try Tahiti route.I can put logbook here if you wish.I once had a heart attack(g) when a Lear appeared over my head on approach to Nice! He disobeyed ATC! Also had a Cessna doing crazy things on approach to Innsbruck and I had to Go Round. Innsbruck is NOT where you wantto 'Go Round'!This is what makes it 'interesting'!

I've had the very same thing happen to me going into Indianapolis and it was an MD80 also. I could look out of the cockpit window and see him slightly in trail and I was cleared to land too. When I couldn't shake him at 200 ft I went around. I reviewed the ATC transcript on the checklist page and filed a complaint on the tower crew with the Feds. I've also seen some strange things in the skies over Anchorage. With 100% traffic the landing / nav lights of the inbound traffic would form formations of lights that acted like lights did in some UFO reports.

Neat story.I think an around the world adventure is the only way to see all that this sim has to offer.I'm currently on my first ARTW stint and am in Kabul Afghanistan of all places! I wanted to fly over Everest so this is where the path has taken me. I started in Toronto Canada, made a trip west to places like Chicago, Denver, San Jose, San Luis Obispo, LA, Honolulu, Tokyo, Hong Kong, Dhaka, Hotan China and now Kabul. All in different planes (from the 777 to the Aero Commander). These are places I would never have just taken up an flown to which is kind of neat, as well it forced me to fly some plnes I don;t normally fly. It's something I highly recommend to anyone.XP Home SP1Asus P4P800-SE Intel 3.0GHZDDR 400 D/C 2x512MBGeForce FX 5700 256MB (56.72)SB AudigyMSFF2 & X45 throttleSee you in the fence...CYYZ

Indeed.Great Geography lessons!South America throws up some incredible approaches with airports in most strange and outlandish places.I never get fed up with the Quito (SEQU) approach with runway at around 9500ft ASL. Easy enough to land but taking off??? Pedal to the metal, flaps 40, wing and a prayer!(lol) Try a 747 its fun! Immolate the town of Quito on hillside! Demonstrate the art of Deep Earth Gardening using a Boeing Shovel. Learn the art of going Wheeeee....I recall the accuracy of the DreamFleets 737 struggling fully loaded to get into the air. Chuck out passengers, and cargo and you may make it.

I'm just about to resume my world tour in the MAAM R4D-6 (previously flew the default DC-3 with a few legs using the fanda dash8). About 56 legs complete of about 250.... (long tour! :( )

St.Barts is about as hair rasing as it gets for me. Try landing the DC-3 there!XP Home SP1Asus P4P800-SE Intel 3.0GHZDDR 400 D/C 2x512MBGeForce FX 5700 256MB (56.72)SB AudigyMSFF2 & X45 throttleSee you in the fence...CYYZ
