July 30, 200421 yr Is this a first for the GA Sim world? -- a multiple LOD, low poly a/c for AI.Thanks Mike -- you have started to fill a gaping void (dramatic hey!!) in the GA Fsim world. Can you tell us how much time was needed to create your new a/c - and can we expect more to come?Barry
August 1, 200421 yr Hi BazzaThanks for the comments.Until the GA-Traffic program came out I had not bothered at all with having GA traffic on my flightsim. I was purely into large aircraft. GA-Traffic made a whole new world come alive. However when it came to populating the GA world I found that quite a few GA aircraft were very intensive on the framerate hit. A new challege arose so the Pilatus PC6 turbo came into being - an aircraft I rather like. Yes it took many hours - I can't say accurately, but many.Yes I am onto a new model now and it is my intention to focus on this area. Good quality, but low poly.CheersMike
August 1, 200421 yr Author I agree, Barry!! Thanks Mike, looking forward to your next creations. Between you and Henry Tomkiewicz we'll have the GA world fully represented!!! August 2, 200421 yr I also want to thank Mike for the AI Porter - Great Job!Sometimes I really wonder about this hobby - a quick search of the Avsim library will reveal thousands of airline models and repaints; but a GA gem like Mike's PC-6 is the proverbial "needle in the haystack". Heck, I would have missed it if Barry hadn't made this post... thanks Barry. I think it may be time for the aircraft designers to realize that there is more traffic out there than just Boeings and Airbuses. The last time I checked, airliners accounted for "much" less than 10 percent of the traffic flying in the real world today.I'm thankful that folks like Markus (the GA-TRAFFIC guy) and Mike are helping us add more "interesting" traffic to our virtual skies. I also appreciate Henry's efforts - although I haven't seen too many painters take advantage of his paint kits... I guess they're too busy trying to get the "shine" just right on their latest Delta MD-88! Personally, I would love to help out with the repaints... but all of my searches for tutorials carry me to outdated sites created by unemployed painters using obsolete programs to paint........, you guessed it, Airliners! If I sound frustrated - it's because I am! When Markus released GA-Traffic, I was really excited... it sounded like the "holy grail" of AI Traffic. Unfortunately, it wasn't - not because it was a bad program (it's actually an excellent program); but because there simply weren't any decent airplanes to use it with. Mike's PC-6 is changing that... but there's a long way to go. I guess what frustrates me the most is the apparent lack of response to this latest innovation. Think about it - designing a general aviation AI airplane should be perfect for the novice flight sim designer (no VC, no panel, no gauges, no custom sounds, no intricate details). But after two months, we finally have one good GA-AI product and a few models without textures. What gives?O.K. I'm done venting - I bought FSDS2 and I've already designed the prettiest water tower in history - I also made a pretty cool tire! With time (and some links to some updated texturing tutorials), a "shiny, new" AI Cirrus SR22 could be just around the corner! But in the mean time, I think I'll crank up FS9 and try to spot a Pilatus.Regards,Marc
