SweetFX not working

Featured Replies

Hello,

I just spent some three hours the forumthread on sweetfx and installing (if you can cann call it that) this little tool.

But for some dark reason it will not work.

I am running FSX in Dx9 mode on windows 7 64bit. A few GA light aircraft of Carenado and the complete set of the sceneries of ORBX.

When I stumbled on this little tool, i downloaded it to my harddisk, read the included readme file and copied the whole bunch to my FSX directory. Afterwards I checked that all files were present and in the location they were supposed to be.

Since the default keys (scrolllock and pause) are also used in FSX I opened 'injector.ini' and changed those two keys (for me page up and page down).

I did some tweaking in the 'sweetFX_settings.txt' but for some reason it just doesn't work.

There is a log file

"full path: D:\Flight Simulator X\

redirecting CreateDevice

initialising shader environment

device->GetBackBuffer failed

redirecting CreateDevice

initialising shader environment

redirecting device->Reset

initialising shader environment

initialising shader environment"

But I can't figure out what it means.

Can anybody shed some light on this?

Hi Luc,

Maybe your textures and colors are close to the SweetFX initial settings so you won't notice much; however, if you activate the Split Screen option you'll notice the difference. Same thing with me, initially I didn't notice nothing until I activated the Split Screen only then I noticed that sweetfx was working.

Once I could see the difference between the 2 then I activated the other options like technicolor and sepia just to have an idea what's going on with this injector, but haven't messed around with the individual components so far I haven't seen the need to do it and I"m happy with the defaults.

You have to uncheck AA in FSX configuration file and enable AA in the video card, in other words hardware controlled instead of software.

I'm using GURU3d because Skyrim's gives a flash of cyan when I switch cockpit views or activate the GPS or any of the consoles.

Hello,

That is what I thought also but even the splitscreen doesn't work.

This might be a long shot, but... Are you, by any chance, running two monitors in a fullscreen setup?

SweetFX doesn't seem to like that on my machine. It seems to apply the effect only on my second monitor, which is used for auxiliary purposes (ATC and such), while leaving the main monitor without post-processing.

That is what I thought also but even the splitscreen doesn't work.

Same thing happened to me and I had to look real close and only then I was able to see the difference on the split screen because the colors and shades were very close on both sides. Once I saw the difference then I began activating the other options just to see what they do and the difference was more noticeable.

I think the default split screen is not vertical but runs in a diagonal line and you may want to choose the vertical split in the config. I believe this was the reason I had a hard time seeing the split screen the first time. In my case the left side had a light grayish blue sky while the right side of the monitor had nice blue sky because of sweetfx.

The response above is right, I think it works only on single monitors and if you are using an external frame limiter you might want the limiter to point to the d3d9.dll provided by sweetfx and not the other "brand".

Hello,

All answers make a lot of sense...

But I am 100% sure there is something more to it.

The split screen is not working.

How am I so sure...

I activate all effects... So there is no way that 'before' equals 'after' and in splitscreen 50/50 there is no difference between left and right. So there is something going on and I can't figure out what.

And I am running only one monitor and windowed mode.

One thing I noticed about SweetFX is FSX now comes back from minimized mode instantly so I know it is working but I understand the OP's concerns. Also MSI AfterBurner may prevent it from running. Read the help text. Cheers jja

If you have AA in FSX turned On, try turning that off.

I had the same problem where there was no apparent effect. As mentioned above turning off anti-alise in FSX then allowed the changes to appear. They may be subtle so Scroll Lock off and on is a good way to see even subtle changes.

The first thing to note is that this tool is made to work more broadly in DX10 and DX9 not interact unless this with some emb, a detail to keep in mind is that if it does not work even in DX10 may be because must update the DX
