removing art from paint kit

Featured Replies

i'm attempting to make a repaint of the xtreme prototypes 20 series jets.

**** I AM NEW TO THIS ******

I was expecting a blank canvas to work with, but the paint kit has the artwork of one of the default paints. what is the best way to remove these lines?

i'm using FSRepaint and photoshop CS6. there are several layers in the paint kit. i've gone through and deleted each layer to see if one of them was the artwork, and it appears as though these stripes are in the background image.

any suggestions? anyone else have experience with this particular add-on?

thanks!

edit: think i got it figured out. i'm just having to manually erase all of them and try to make it match the skin around it.

A real paint-kit should exist of layered texturefiles .

Switching on and of these layers enables you to control .

that's what i was thinking. but its not the case with this paint kit they emailed me. the default paint scheme is part of the background layer. i turned off every layer and there is no way to get rid of it. the artwork is also in the alpha channel, which i didn't realize until i tried a test repaint and saw the reflections of the original paint scheme.

I have that plane/kit and CS6 and seems to me I had to paint them out. I'd make a copy of the background layer and paint on that, trying to stick to just where the colours are. But this way you can use a white brush and it won't matter if you overlap other areas as I think the only thing on the background is the basic outline and colours. But check first - it's been a while for me.

I have that kit and GLJ20_body_01_T.psd has the artwork on the background layer.

However, above the background I have Layer 3 which is gray and is for creating the spec, I believe.

Above that I have Layer 8 which is white and is where you would add your artwork.

Above that is "original lines" which has the detail. You could also use "lines processed" for the detail.

In the layer set "241 Baked" you can turn off everything but "Ambient Occlusion" and you should be good to go.

Unless your paintkit is different than mine.
