December 12, 201213 yr This is Cherokee Airport (AK45). I came upon it while getting the Aerocaches in this area. It's a little dark, although only 2:30 P.M. - sorry, that's Alaska for you at this time of year. Anyway, there seem to be 5, count them, 5 runways, one next to the other. Weird. I couldn't figure where to land, so I chose one at random. Wouldn't you know it? 1 in 5 chance of getting it right, and I got it... wrong. According to the Flight Map, the runway is on the far left, the first of the five. Still, landing where I did counted as an unique airport anyway. But, the runway texture is on the first. So, I went around and landed there. But, I really can't understand what this is about. The Google image shows the same thing, so it isn't a mistake. According to the information, the strip is owned by a couple with only 1 airplane, so what are the other 4 strips for? Best regards. Luis Hot, humid Caribbean paradise!
December 12, 201213 yr Found a phone number of the owner on the FAA website. Maybe anyone in the US can phone them to ask  ? Looks like a plantation or something similar. And yes, looks like the left one is the real one.
December 12, 201213 yr Hi Folks Luis - Its not just the 4 strips there's several other odd clearcuts nearby, that exist both in-game and IRL. Thats what I was referring to in the previous post - Following your 45AK posting over at the Old Hangarencouraged me to fly the various airports thereabouts. Loving the tree's and ground cover's seasonal colouring, especially the mixing of tree-types, rather than solid uniform blocks. Did you manage to work out what all those clearcut strips & areas were for ? Interested in knowing whats being constructed nearby. One even resembles an airfield under construction, with dispersal areas and an odd curved approach path. Guessing that might possibly be a pipeline ? re: The four strips they don't appear to be airstrips as from Google or Bing, there are ditches & possibly small hedges running diagonally across them. December 13, 201213 yr This is simple. It's AG land. That's how to clear tundra to make it usable to plant something. The whole area is like that.
