Tristar for FSX

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Ok just wondering if there is a good quality payware Lockheed Tristar available for fsx? It would have to have a good realistic VC as I only fly in the VC and it would have to be wholly flyable from the VC too.

I know about the Perfect flight model, but while the external model looks good the VC is surely not that of a Tristar!!

I used to have one in fs2004 or was it fs2000? but was wondering if there is one out there for fsx. I have found the freeware one on here, I forget who by, that is a nice external model with a DC10 Virtual cockpit which is flyable at least, and I have added a 2D panel for a Carousel INS system which works very well, and makes things more realistic.

So can anyone help, hahahaha hoping Mr PMDG reads this lol.

Happy flying,

Happy Flying,

Dave Phillips.

The very short, but very factual answer my friend is, Nope!

I too would love to see a hi fidelity one for FSX though. My first ever long-haul flight (Manchester, UK <> Dabolim, Goa, India) was in a Tristar, in the early 90s. :)

I've used the aerosim fs9 version in fsx, it worked but not in dx10 preview.

Hi,

Fritz, don't you have problems with the virtual cockpit controls not working when you port over an fs9 aircraft into fsx? As I only fly in the VC I would need a working VC!

Thanks for the replies anyway.

All I did was install it into FSX as if I was installing it into fs9, everything worked just like it did in fs9 except the training flights that come with it. I do complete flights exclusively from the VC routinely.

I did have to swap out the strobe lights fx for default and re-position them

there is also a procedure with the auto-throttle that needs to be practiced that I had to use a key command. Ctrl+Shift+R

There is a convert program to install way points into it's proprietary INS simulation as well that works.

Last, I added Exits so the default baggage trucks and Jetway would work

[exits]

number_of_exits = 2

exit_rate.0 = 0.2

exit_rate.1 = 0.2

;exit.1 = 0.4, -38.5, 4.5, -3.0, 1 //openclose rate percent per second, longitudinal, lateral, vertical positions from datum (feet), type (0=Main 1=Cargo 2=Emergency)

exit.1 = 0.4, 39.2, 8.8, -6.0, 1 //openclose rate percent per second, longitudinal, lateral, vertical positions from datum (feet), type (0=Main 1=Cargo 2=Emergency)

Hi Fritz,

Thanks for those details, mmmmm interesting I might have to look into this more. Can you get the Aerosim Tristar still? .... either payware or freeware, or did it become the Perfect flight version?

I'll troll the internet and find out.

Oh do you have the Carousel working INS set up on your Tristar, just asking out of curiosity?

Fritz,

Just to let you know I ported the L1011 over to FSX and it appears to work in DX10 with little problems. There is just a little blue on one or two of the controls where there should be gray or black. The outside there is some minor transparency on or near the cargo doors and wings but you have to look very close to notice. Not a show stopper IMO. It is nothing like some of the airplanes I tried using DX10 which were a total "ghost" exterior and interior.

I have converted totally to DX10.

Also thanks for the "exits" and the convert program.

Hi Dave,

Give the site below a try. I must say even ported over the L1011 flies very nice. Better than some of the planes made for FSX.

glad I could help, my experience was all white textures, so I gave up.

Never tried that, I use the one that comes with it, mind you, it's very rudimentary, you can't even change way points on the fly, but you can skip way points.

That link shows the page, there is a menu says fs2004 products, choose classic airliners version 2

Hi Fritz,

The carousel INS is a freeware product but everything works as it should, I think it's the one flightsim labs use in their ConcordeX. I don't know enough to try to get it working in the VC so had to make a small pop-up 2d window but haven't experimented much with it as yet.............got as far as initial position and programming waypoints into it. Need to give it some more time!

You can get it here, http://www.simufly.com/ins/index.html

Sure, I'm familiar with it, I used to play with it in historical airliners birds, just can't see any way to put it into the VC.

Hi Fritz,

Ok you have me there, I understand to do that you need to be a whizz with BGL files, and that isn't me. I had to compromise and use a small 2d pop up, but I have a second monitor so drag it into there to keep the main view clear of clutter! Like you I really prefer to fly souly from the VC and all controls work from there.

Thanks for the info, I will check out aerosim's site when I get a chance. In the mean time,

Fritz,

If you go over to the DX10 forum there is a new find to help with white textures. Check out "Steve's Bkg.bmp" Becuase of that file I have been able to use almost all my ported planes with DX10 including L1011, Carenado and others with no white textures.

Carl, Thank you, didn't realize there was a new version 3.2.1, it works
