August 5, 200421 yr I need to modify my earlier post stating I had no problems with x9c. I started to get CTD's, even with the default Baron, about 20 minutes into a flight. I rolled back to x9b yesterday but time has only allowed me one flight of about an hour but no CTD. I need to continue testing.BTW, did you know that when one does a rollback, it not only affects any drivers and configuration settings which might have been done after the corresponding checkpoint, but also eliminates any aircraft and scenery which might have been installed in FS9. MY FS9.cfg and scenery.cfg were set as they were at the time of the checkpoint and I lost the Chipmonk aircraft (completely gone from the aircraft folder) which had been installed after the checkpoint. Fortunetally, I have backups for all of the stuff but it is a point worth noting. Other files, such as those in my MS Money financial program were unaffected, however, my firewall (ZoneAlert Pro) configurations were also reverted. So how does the checkpoint/restore know which to change and which to leave alone? Probably works with the dates on the files! It goes too quick to be doing a wholesale file copy! Personally, I would prefer it to leave my FS9 alone and just worry about system files and drivers.Larry S.
August 5, 200421 yr Running DX9c /SP1/ and NVidia 62.20 here - so far no problems - slightly more smoothness in scenery - maybe 1 or 2 more fps but nothing earth shattering.DaveMSI KT6V-LSR(MS-7021)AMD Athlon XP3000.768 MB 333mhz DDRAMTi4200/128MB GPU.62.20 driversMaxtor 80GB HDD(7200rpm)Maxtor 40GB HDD(7200rpm)LG CDRWLG CDR 52Xo/b AC97 soundThermaltake 480W PSUWinXP- SP1.Direct X 9cSaitek Cyborg 3D Joystick
August 5, 200421 yr I had the same problem also! :-8It's a good thing that I had created a system restore point!ScottInstructor Pilot - USAFA IFT Program
August 6, 200421 yr I haven't had any problems with 9c or the nvidia 61.77 driver and FS9 does appear to be smoother. We shall see.I believe that the checkpoint restore uses filetype as one of the criteria as to what is backed up. Ie: .txt and .ini file types are two of the types that are backed up and restored. There are other criteria which I don't remember, but are listed somewhere in the MS Knowledge Base. That happened to me once a while back and I lost about 4 or 5 AI flightplans and the associated planes that I had installed. Now I take a backup after each install session.
August 7, 200421 yr I installed DX 9.0c and 61.77 drivers and have since restored back to 9.0b and uninstalled 61.77 (using of course the R.I.P. utility to finish the job), installed the 61.72 (WHQL) drivers (it's just my preference I guess, but I don't use beta drivers, I'll patiently wait for the WHQL's). I did not like the herky jerky way my system was acting. FS9 or the system in general seemed to be lagging a bit and this combination seems to have settled things down to my satisfaction. I am running I guess what would be classified as a low to mid system, XP-Home, P4 2.0, 512 mem, Nvidia Ti4200 128mb, and I get a good avg. 18 - 25 fps with sliders in mid to high range. I'm happy. The fps was about the same with 9.0c and 61.77's, but just seemed a little unstable for my liking (could be just me though). I guess I've psyched myself into liking the latest combination...LOL.Regards,Tom i913900KF (5.8GHz) | Case: Fractal PopAir RGB I Gigabyte Z790 UD AX| MSI Gaming RTX 4070Ti Super 16GB | Kingston Fury Beast 64GB DDR5 5200Mhz | SOLIDIGM P41 Plus 2TB NVMe M.2 SSD | Samsung SSD 870 EVO 2TB | Thermalright Frozen Notte 240 MM Liquid Cooling | LG EVO 42" Monitor 3840 x 2160 120Hz | Honeycomb Alpha & Bravo | Logitech G Pro pedals | Tobii EyeTracker | 850W Thermaltake 80+ GOLD |

September 19, 200421 yr Just a short note to lthank everyone who replied to myposting. Apologies for not doing so earlier due to holsand other assorted problems which prevented me from going on line.As an update to my posting - I formatted hard disks and reloadedWinXP, FS9 and SP2 official version with DirectX 9c and Nvidia 6177drivers and all going well .
September 20, 200421 yr Just an INSTALLATION TIP . . .If you have any "specialized" mouse or pointer drivers loaded, remove them and defalt to the standard PS2 mouse drivers. Also, remove your video drivers and defalt to standard VGA or compatible. After you've upgraded to SP2, reboot and reload the drivers. This will minimize or eliminate some strange and intermittent problems with cursor lockups, screen flashing, video performance, etc.I had to do this to even download SP1. When I upgraded to SP2 I forgot to remove them and suffered some strange things - including dropping my video system from AGP to "PCI compatible" as shown by running DXDIAG.Hope this helps somebody.Regards,Sfanger
September 21, 200421 yr HiI installed DirectX9c a couple nights ago (I needed it for another program) and it has caused a definite slowdown in texture loading with FS9. I made a restore point first and am wondering if a restore will safely bring me back to DX9b.ThanksDavid
