FSX crash when exiting FSUIPC

Featured Replies

Just recently bought an SSD and a new Velociraptor drive for FSX. I've gotten everything installed but am having issues. Haven't been able to fly the NGX yet because most times if i'm doing something in FSUIPC and then exit, the scenery disappears and then the monitor starts flashing then FSX crashes. I've tried everything short of starting completely over by reinstalling windows. Any insights would be appreciated. I'm very frustrated. Thanks.

Latest version of FSUIPC

Tried several Nvidia drivers

Set Bios to defaults

Reinstalled several times FSX and NGX

You will have to run AppCrashView - http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/app_crash_view.html - and copy and paste the error report, including loaded modules, to this forum so that we can look at what might have crashed your system.

When you installed the SSD, did you set the SATA Mode Selection in the BIOS to AHCI (vs IDE)? Is the drive being recognized in the BIOS as one of the boot drives? Is this your boot drive where Windows 7 (or whatever OS you have) is located?

What are your system specs? You can list your system specs in your membership profile. Look at mine in the sidebar for an example.

Make sure your drivers are up-to-date. Use a freeware program like DriverScanner to see if your drivers are up-to-date. If it finds old drivers, the program will offer to update them at a price but, if you know how to Google, you can search for the updated drivers yourself and install them. Make sure the SSD has the latest firmware installed.

Best regards,

Jim

Thank you for responding. I downloaded AppcrashView but what is occurring does not show up as a crash. I've done everything else that you suggested above except the firmware update for the SSD. Kingston says that there is a problem with the updater for my partcular drive and they are working on fixing it.

Stay on them as updating the firmware (if there is one) is important. Reading your OP again I don't think you have a problem with FSUIPC but maybe you are having one of those infamous menu crashes. I haven't seen one but you had to click on the menu, then addons, to get to the FSUIPC. Have you tried placing the Vista version of the uiautomationcore.dll into your main FSX folder? The dll can be downloaded here - http://www.search-dll.com/dll-files/download/uiautomationcore.dll.html. If it works, okay. If it doesn't work, remove it.

Best regards,

Jim

Kingston has taken down the firmware update for my drive. Hopefully they put up a new one soon.

I had suspected that the issue was not directly related to FSUIPC. I have since had the problem when changing aircraft. So far it's only happened while using the NGX but seeing as I don't really fly much else that probably doesn't mean much.

I solved my problem. After installing windows 7 again I never turned of UAC. After turning UAC off all is fine again.

Thanks for posting your solution Steve. Glad you got it working again. Windows security features does it again!

Jim
