Experiment with Priority Saver: FSX high priority and no AffinityMask

Featured Replies

A few days ago i read this post:

This "Proces Lasso" made me experiment:

1. I did set my Avira Free Antivirus to exclude my FSX map during flights (so only on demand scanning).

I didn't saw any difference, but you never know: it can only be the same or slightly better.

2. I downloaded and installed Prio - Priority Saver 2.00 at http://www.prnwatch.com/download.html from the site:

http://www.prnwatch.com/prio.html

3. I restarted my PC and in Windows 7 Task Manager \ Processes by right clicking on Fsx.exe*32 i set its 'CPU priority' to HIGH.

Remark that PRIO made a new item: 'Save Priority': V. So every time you startup FSX the priority HIGH is kept now and not reset.

4. So now that FSX has high priority to other programs, i deleted the 'AffinityMask=14' line in my FSX.cfg so that FSX can make use again of all 4 cores in stead of 3.

Apart from 'AffinityMask' now, my FSX.cfg is still completely Word Not Allowed tuned.

I ran my usual test where i have frame dropping and more stutter: i see less frame dropping and less stutter, but only slight.

In my specs on the left you can see i have an i5 2500K @ 4.3 Ghz.

So i think it's a nice thing to experiment with and i am curious if other people get also (slightly) better results with it ?

With kind regards,

Bart S.

I now run FSX on high priority but from a batch file with the /high parameter so I don't need an external program. I didn't change my affinity mask (maybe I should try it) and I am getting much better FPS. I'm sorry I didn't document the changes better but it is more than a subjective difference, it is significant.

Prio has been around for years and I've been using it for that long as well.

I don't set to High, but to Above Normal and get good results.
