DX10 texture problem

Featured Replies

So I decided to switch to DX10 once and for all and overall I'm very happy with it. There are still 2 little things that annoy me though.

1) I can't get AA to be as nice as it was in DX9 (I don't know if it's actually possible) but I can live with it, it isn't that bad.

2) I have some flashing texture problems that I never experienced in DX9, see picture below.

The default texture is flashing for a split second and then goes back to normal. This flashing is completely random as well but it seems to be more frequent when flying low.

I noticed that I had the water effects set to high instead of mid and after changing it back it's been a lot better. But it's still doing it every second or so to give you a rough idea even though it's actually random.

Thanks in advance for any help !

Hi LB: The Blue flashing is due to the lack of time available for the correct textures to display. This behavior is normal for both DX9 and DX10. We can get rid of them quite easily, however first - the reason one doesn't notice this in DX9, is that in DX9 that "dummy" texture is black - not blue, and therefore not as immediately evident.

Now - to get rid of it.. we need to see your fsx.cfg, so - if you wouldn't mind, please, copy the file and rename it as "LB777_fsx.txt" and then attach it here in the forum.

All the Best,

pj

Ok here is my cfg.

I did know about the texture being black in DX9, but the flashing problem still seemed to be more frequent in DX10... Anyway thanks a lot for your help and I hope my cfg isn't too messy ^_^

Thanks: I didn't mention it, but that blue texture is replaced with a lightened black one in the latest revisions (3.2.1 & 3.2.2) of the patch, LB.

Here it is, LB. Not much changed, just suggestions, as a couple of your settings are quite high for your system at that proc speed, BUT I would heartily recommend moving the proc up to 4.4 or 4.5, in order to match the power of the 570. You can then use a small RejectThreshold for your BufferPools setting, keeping water at 5, and that will get rid of that flashing. This will be better than BP=0 (which causes the flashing, aided and abetted by the high settings).

Thanks ! I applied your tweaks and I overclocked my CPU to almost 4.5 GHz (I'll keep an eye on the temps though  ) and it definitely helped improving my fps.

Now I guess I'll try to tweak the RejectThreshold the best I can and everything should be perfect.

I also let FSX calculate a new ProcSpeed and it "only" gave me 10400, so do you think entering a higher value manually would change anything ?

Cheers

Good Man! You don't hang about, do you!!

No - what you enter for procspeed doesn't mean anything, LB. This figure is created when you start the sim, and it's based on what FSX thinks of the system and it's settings - the higher the better. The other number - the perfbucket, is based upon the proc itself - 7 being the highest.

131072, 262144, 524288, 786432 and 1048576 (128kB, 256kB, 512kB, 768kB and 1.024MB) for the RT numbers, probably the 128kB will do the job.

Setting the BP numbers is a long job, LB, but when done, you will be able to hold much higher settings than with DX9. Determining the most beneficial settings for the FSX environment should be done this way, not the way we "tune" DX9, but many - or even most, settings are just taken from another simmers settings or a guide, or they're just guessed at.

We need to get the highest proc speed first, get the best memory configuration and timings, then match the GPU to the proc: i.e. don't run 4.7-to-5gig proc, with a 560Ti or a 470. Match high-end to high-end, mid-range to mid-range. Clean up the running processes, so that the pc is "lean", massage the fsx.cfg, and lastly - check all textures for Alpha textures and MiMaps.

Then we're good to go!

Ok everything looks good with 128kB but as you said tweaking never ends! There's also this damn AA but I've got plenty of time for that.

Oh and FSX just created a slightly better procspeed value again for no reason, haha. This sim will keep its secrets till its death !

Once again, thank you for your quick replies and for your time helping a little newbie

All the best !

I reckon we're all newbies when it comes to figuring out FSX, LB!

I find it kinda goes like this:- :yahoo: =@... Money%20Eyes.gif.... :yahoo: =@ :unknw:
