January 7, 201313 yr Shalom and greetings all my pals, There is defect in FSX default KLGA scenery when I am approaching runway 22 and suddenly my plane hits something invisible in midair and land-crashes (rather slam-land) on runway although no damage to my plane. Replay shows that my plane has clear path to runway and there is no obstacle. I do not have crash detection on. I always leave it off. Anybody knows fix to FSX default KLGA to correct this problem?? Aharon
January 7, 201313 yr I've had the same happen there and at KSFO Rwy 28R except w/ crash detection on (plane crashes at that point). What is common to both is the runway edge is so close to the water. Only thing I know to do is be aware it exists and flying a slightly higher approach. Rob
January 7, 201313 yr Author At what altitude are both of you experiencing these issues? Zowenll, I was on standard runway approach to land that was within normal operating rules of FAA. I had been using FSX for 6 years and it never happened to me before!!! Great Ozzie, I cannot use higher approach for KLGA runway 22 that has only 7,000 ft especially when I am using DC-10-30 or L1101 or A300!!! I do not have problems with KSFO runways that you mention. I think it is defect in FSX default KLGA scenery concerning use of runway 22. Aharon
January 7, 201313 yr I was on standard runway approach to land that was within normal operating rules of FAA. I had been using FSX for 6 years and it never happened to me before!!! But does the issue occur at around 100 ft or around 1000 ft, etc.? If it occurs at lower altitudes, it might involve a terrain glitch. I'm not quite sure until you provide screen shots and/or specific information regarding the aircraft and altitudes involved and weather encountered. If you are not experiencing similar issues at KSFO, perhaps they are specific to your system. Have you tried running a registry utility such as the Flight1 Registry Repair Tool?
January 7, 201313 yr I also experienced the same on KLGA. I fixed it by reducing the mesh complexity, I believe I had to reduce it to 19. Somebody else reported the same issue on another airport, he fixed it by updating GEX to the latest version, if you use GEX I'd look into that. If not, I'd try to reduce the mesh complexity vatsim s3
January 7, 201313 yr Author I'm not quite sure until you provide screen shots and/or specific information regarding the aircraft and altitudes involved and weather encountered. Here is shot from which you can see clear path and there is no obstacle. PRECISELY ONE second after this shot, the plane hit something in midair and crash-landed on runway 22 (actually slam-landed on runway like you slam your fist on the table). FSX default KGLA runway 22 must be defective. Wims80, I do not use GEX and my mesh complexity is same as yours. Aharon
January 7, 201313 yr I double checked my settings and it appears that I am using a 10m mesh resolution now. I am however also using a freeware scenery for LGA, namely Shez's LGA 2004, along with the FSX patch. It works fine for me (no crash into invisible barrier at runway 22). You can find the scenery in AVSims library. Search for KLGA. There are a bunch of files needed for this to work in FSX, as it was originally designed for FS9, but the files should be linked from the FSX version of the scenery in the library vatsim s3
January 7, 201313 yr But does the issue occur at around 100 ft or around 1000 ft, etc.? I'd say roughly 100' (can't remember a 50' RA callout)... just when you are crossing from water to land. Once, I've even caught a momentary glimpse of what I would call the airport terrain "leaping" into the air (at KLGA). It is like the instant the plane crossed the water / land boundary - the land rises to airplane height. Once occurred during an autoland at KSFO. And a number of times hand-flying into KLGA (both w/ PMDG 747) but I mis-stated... it was actually Rwy 13. I would even switch into the Jet Ranger and try to fly over the water / land boundary to reproduce but never happen. if you use GEX I'd look into that. No GEX at the moment... Thanks for the mesh complexity tip. Rob

I was thinking that it might be a defective antenna, fence, or row of lights, but it doesn't seem like it from the screen shot. What is your scenery complexity setting? Regardless of the source, I do not think there is anything we can do if multiple people are experiencing similar issues without success.
