January 14, 201313 yr I need advice on o/c and de-lidding. i7-3770k, Asus p8z77-v deluxe, corsair 4x8gb 1600, corsair 1200i, integrated intel graphics 4000 on-board ( may buy gtx 690 or something lower or what is next after 690 ? ), hts with fan block that came with cpu. I am new to o/c. The Manual Mode tab for AsuS TurboV EVO powered by TPU is full of different figures and don't know where to start. The other tab is Auto Tuning GPU Boost. I have no water cooling; is Thermaltake Water Extreme 2.0 a good liquid cooling block ? Is it better to do de-lidding of cpu using Coollaboratory Liquid Pro ? What exactly does full and idle load mean ? Sorry if it sounds silly. Can on-board intel graphics 4000 be o/c ? Please help advise/comment or provide information re. my topic. It will be appreciated. Thank you. hash
January 14, 201313 yr If you "don't know where to start", then you need to do some research first. Look at the many Ivy bridge overclocking guides on the net, they will give you valuable information. Also check out the videos on youtube. It's simple enough, but there are some concepts you need to understand first, like fixed voltage and off-set voltage for example. There are no short cuts, you need to do your research. To be honest, if you don't even know the difference between full load and idle, then you shouldn't be delliding your CPU. You need to grasp at least the basics of overclocking first, before diving in head first with a serious CPU mod. Idle is when your CPU isn't under any load. Full load is when you are stressing the CPU to the max, with a stress testing utility like Prime95, IBT, etc. As for onboard graphics, no you can't overlock as far as I know, if you could you would be mad to bother. Serious applications like FSX require a powerful dedicated graphics card. Liquid Pro or Ultra is best for delliding, Ultra supposedly cleans off better. But again.... don't even consder such a thing. It's obvious you are a beginner with very little knowledge. Don't even consider delliding until you are very experienced.
January 14, 201313 yr Author Thanks Martin Looks like I have a lot of homework to do. What is your opinion on Thermaltake Water Extrme 2.0 cooling ?
January 14, 201313 yr It looks to be a good performer. However, seems to me it doesn't perfom any better than the Corsiar H100i If you look at the decibels in the review below, you can see it's noisier than the other coolers at full tilt. But does cool reasonably well set to low RPM. The H100i isn't in this review. http://www.hardwares...r-Review/1633/6 I use a Noctua NH-d14, quite frankly it's superb, Cools beautifully, super quiet. But it's big and won't fit in all cases. If I were going for an all in one water cooler, I would go for the new Corsair H100i. Not the H100, the i is important. Or better still, I would probably wait for the Coolermaster Eisberg to be available. All in one water coolers have been known to leak though, air cooling never will.
January 14, 201313 yr As you can see from this review, the cooling performance is the same as the H100i, but the softaware is better with the Corsair apparently... http://pro-clockers....ew.html?start=4
January 14, 201313 yr i7-3770k, Asus p8z77-v deluxe I have the same CPU and motherboard, and just recently completed overclocking it. I use the Corsair H100 for cooling. Overclocking with a 45x multiplier (4.5 gigahertz) I had to use a vcore of 1.32 to run stable. The H100 handles temps very well, and heat hasn't been an issue. I tried to overclock to 4.6 but the vcore requirment bumped it into the 1.4 territory and wasn't worth it. As far as delidding, well there is another thread that I created recently where it didn't go well. I trashed my cpu and had to buy another one. Not saying that you shouldn't delid, but do it knowing that it could be a $300 lesson. Here is a specific guide to overclocking for our cpu/motherboards. January 14, 201313 yr i got 4.6 just using their built in OC wizard on same cpu and mobo. Unless you dont mind bleeding and potentially toasting your rig, play it safe and follow along. Jay EKlund UVA/GCVA Pile-it
January 14, 201313 yr Author First I need to install a water cooling block then o/c. The links provided have given me quite a bit of info so thx. I will use their built in oc wizard once I learn how to do it safe. I mentioned to my local pc engineer that the PC Case manufacturers should now concentrate on making their cases just like mini fridges. It would be cheaper than buying a pre-built or a custom cooling system. Fridges are lot cheaper and temperatures can be regulated to around 0 degrees centigrade. A brave pioneer will make millions on this invention. hash

Yes, I have the same board and CPU. Be careful with the Asus OC wizard, it bumped mine up to 4.7 at high voltage. It was running at 95 degrees in Aida, it would probably have shut down in Prime. I can do 4.6 at about the same voltage for me as dighost. The sudden thermal brick wall with Ivybridge is quite something. I'll be delidding in a few days, be tinteresting see how I do then. January 14, 201313 yr Just found your thread dighost... sounds like you had a bad chip to start with, as you didn't test it first. Either that, or whatever "sealant" you used caused the issue.
