January 14, 201313 yr I know this one is me but still stumped even after reading manual a couple of times. Due to the fmc not reading a .pln plan I tried entering the plan manually using the b747 fmc and saving the plan as a rte file, Success  but for some reason on the md 11 fmc it does'nt add my departure airport it starts with my first waypoint and I can't find out how to go backwards in the flight plan. So I thought I would just enter the whole plan again using the md11 fmc and have run into another problem as I want to add a lat/lon way point after a vor point ETIKI I want to then go to N45W015 and according to the manual I click on the lsk next to ETIKI and it should insert that fix but it won't let me, I've had format error, not in database and another msg that I can't think of what am I doing wrong Thanks Pete Little

If you try to do the same in an MD-11 FMS there is no origin airport in your flightplan. I believe the origin airport in the flightplan comes from page 1 of the F-PLAN INIT where you enter the origin and destination on line 1R as KRSW/KTPA. KRSW should appear on line 1L of the ACT F-PLN. Click on line 1L and the SID page should appear. Select the runway and then select the SID if you need it and then click to left of *INSERT and what ever you just selected will appear in the ACT F-PLN. When this is saved as a flightplan only the airport will appear in ACT F-PLN when it is recalled. For the coodinates I would enter them as N4500.0/W01500.0 into the scratchpad and then select them to the line below ETIKI. Michael Cubine Michael Cubine
January 16, 201313 yr Author Hi I've tried the suggestion given but no joy my first line of the flight plan say T-P not my departure airport so I can't enter my SID as the T-P does not give me that option. Any ideas ? Thanks Pete Little

Any ideas ? Thanks Pete T-P stands for turn point. Don't know where that came from. Why don't you post the route you are trying to enter into the FMS and let me see if I can enter it, save it and recall it and see what comes up in the FMS. Are you entering the saved plan name in CO ROUTE on page 1 of the F-PLN INIT? Michael Cubine Michael Cubine
January 16, 201313 yr Author Hi Michael the route is EGKK sam n61 bevel un621 maruk um195 lorku un866 gobur un484 reghi un480 etiki dct n45w015 n42w020 n38w025 n34w030 n27w040 n24w045 n21w050 n18w054 dct bgi TBPB I can enter the star for TBPB but for some reason it misses EGKK and starts with the T-P then sam I should say that in the 747 fmc it works fine with no problems at all Thanks Pete Pete Little
January 16, 201313 yr Pete What is the runway and SID out of Gatwick and the STAR and runway into Barbados? Michael Cubine Michael Cubine
January 17, 201313 yr Pete Never mind the abive post. I got the route to work the first time. During entering the plan I noticed this problem which might be causing the T-P. There is no N61 from SAM to BEVEL BEVEL is the second waypoint once you have gotten on UN621. This is the way I show the plan starting - EGKK SAM N621 KAPEX UN621 MARUK and so on per your plan. January 18, 201313 yr Author thanks Michael Will give it a try did you have any problems with the lat/lon fixes after ETIKI as it wont let me put them in the next row down it has route discontinuity rgds Pete Pete Little
January 18, 201313 yr thanks Michael Will give it a try did you have any problems with the lat/lon fixes after ETIKI as it wont let me put them in the next row down it has route discontinuity rgds Pete Pete I don't recall any problems with entering coordinates after ETIKI. Make sure you are entering coordinates in the correct format and line selecting them to the line below the previous coordinate in your flightplan. Once I started entering the coordinates I believe the only discontinuity I encounter was between the last coordinate and BGI which is to be expected and should be cleared. If you are still having problems let me know and I will write a post covering the entry of the flightplan on a step by step basis. Michael Cubine Michael Cubine
January 19, 201313 yr Pete I am going to send this since I will be away from the computer for several days and unable to respond to any questions you might have. Load the MD-11 at any airport and any runway. It does not need to be at Gatwick. All mouse clicks are left unless stated otherwise. Use the 2-D Panel for the sake of convenience. Click on the MCDU. The A/C STATUS Page will come up. Click on F-PLN INIT which will bring up the F-PLN INIT Page. Enter EGKK/TBPB into the scratchpad. Line select (LSK) to 1R. The next Page will tell you no plan is available. LSK 6R for Return To F-PLN INIT. Press the F-PLN key. This will take you to the ACT F-PLN Page. Enter SAM into the scratchpad and LSK to L2 which will bring up a page that shoes Duplicate Names for SAM. You want to select the one that is N50/W001. It could be on any line depending on where you loaded the plane. The closest are listed first. I loaded the MD-11 at KJFK so it is second on my list. If you loaded your MD-11 in the UK it should be first on your list. Just make sure the one you select has the lat/long of N50/W001. After you have selected SAM you will be returned To ACT F-PLN. Select SAM and a Page called LAT REV FROM SAM will appear. Select AIRWAYS and the next Page is AIRWAYS FROM SAM. Enter N621 in the scratchpad and LSK to 1L. Enter the waypoint name KAPEX in the scratchpad and LSK to R1. Enter the next airway UN621 in the scratchpad and LSK to L2. Enter the next waypoint MARUK in the scratchpad and LSK to R2. Continue doing this until all five lines are full. Then click on INSERT and the ACT F-PLN comes up. Press the up arrow key until REGHI appears then press L6 next to it and you will a page just like the one that appeared after SAM was clicked. Click AIRWAYS on L2 and complete it with UN480 LSK to L1 and ETIKI LSK to R1. Click INSERT on L6. This returns you to the ACT F-PLN Page which shows a discontinuity after ETIKI. Enter the coordinates N4500.0/W01500.0 in the scratchpad and LSK to L6. Using the up arrow key you can see the discontinuity has moved down one line. It can be cleared now but it is going to come right back after the next coordinate it entered. Enter the next coordinate N4200.0/W02000.0 in the scratchpad and LSK to L6. Continue on like this with the coordinates. After your last coordinate is entered enter BGI in the scratchpad and LSK to L6. When you click on BGI another duplicate names page is going to appear. Be sure to select the one with lat/long of N13/W059. Now there is a discontinuity between BGI and TPBP. Clear the disco and there is your flight plan. Now save it by pressing the REF button and selecting on R6 SAVE F-PLN. It should be saved in PMDG/FLIGHTSPLANS as EGKKTPBP001.rte. Please let me know how it turns out for you. January 19, 201313 yr Excuse me but im having problems entering waypoints on the flight plan. But do you know where i can start learning how to enter way points? Because when im starting my flight plan from the start i click flight plan init then crate the flght plan but after choising my runway im supose to takeoff on and the runway im supose to land on. I must have waypoints to guid my flight. My Problems is where do i get imformation on waypoints i tryed to enter latitude and longitude but the fmc wont except that. For example if want to fly from amisterdam to dubai i dont know how to enter the waypoints of the rout to dubai. So is there anybody that can help me out? Please tell me how to get all the information on all waypoint to airports. My email is [email protected] Abdulrahim adar

January 19, 201313 yr Author Many thank Michael worked fine this time I've tried a couple of other routes and i seem to have got the hang of this fmc now think the problem i was having was i was putting a . instead of a / on the lat/lon refs but havent got a clue why i was getting the t-p as the plan was a direct import from the 747 fmc but hey who cares it just means if i have the same problem in the future ,I'll just put an md 11 from scratch route many thanks again rgds Pete Pete Little
January 20, 201313 yr Not sure where this came from, but it's helped me. I copied it from a post... FMC Lat/Long Coordinate Coding Posted 05 May 2011 - 09:42 PM N latitude, W < 100 degrees longitude = xxxxN (eg: 6040N = 60N 40W) N latitude, W > 100 degrees longitude = xxNxx (eg: 50N20 = 50N 120W) N latitude, E < 100 degrees longitude = xxxxE (eg: 4507E = 45N 07E) N latitude, E > 100 degrees longitude = xxExx (eg: 12E21 = 12N 121E) S latitude , W < 100 degrees longitude = xxxxW (eg: 1041W = 10S 41W) S latitude, W > 100 degrees longitude = xxWxx (eg: 05W60 = 05S 160W) S latitude, E < 100 degrees longitude = xxxxS (eg: 0233S = 02S 33E) S latitude, E > 100 degrees longitude = xxSxx (eg: 14S11 = 14S 111E) Example: (taken from KLAX to YSSY United flight on FlightAware) Quote PRCH9 DINTY DUETS 3300N 13000W 3300N 13500W AXELE 3000N 14800W 2800N 15500W 2500N 16100W 2100N 16500W 1500N 16900W 1000N 17200W 0400N 17500W ARTOP 0600S 17500E 1100S 17000E 1500S 16700E 2100S 16300E 2700S 16000E MISLY B580 IFFEY MARLN From the above route: 3300N 13000W = 33N30 3300N 13500W = 33N35 3000N 14800W = 30N48 0600S 17500E = 06S75 1100S 17000E = 11S70 1500S 16700E = 15S67 It's fairly simple to remember. It's either a North latitude or a South latitude, paired with West or East longitudes; NW, NE, SW, SE. If the West/East is greater > 100 degrees, the letter modifier will always be in the middle of the fix (xxNxx) If the West/East is less < 100 degrees, the letter modifier will always be at the end of the fix (xxxxN) North lat + West long = N as the modifier letter ( xxxxN / xxNxx ) North lat + East long = E as the modifier letter ( xxxxE / xxExx ) South lat + West long = W as the modifier letter ( xxxxW / xxWxx ) South lat + East long = S as the modifier letter ( xxxxS / xxSxx ) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- To code in custom Lat/Long corrdoinates it depends on the values of the Lat/Long. In your case, the coordinates will be entered like this: 5700N 10000W = 57N00 5930N 09000W = (not sure about 5930N 09000W but 5990N = 5900N 09000W) 6100N 08000W = 6180N 6300N 06000W = 6360N 6300N 05000W = 6350N 6200N 04000W = 6240N 6000N 03000W = 6030N 5700N 02000W = 5720N I have used this coding repeatedly in the 744 and MD-11 FMC's crossing the ponds. I had this question myself several years ago and was lucky enough to find the post that I qouted above. (I copied it for my own future use.) Hopefully this will answer your questions.
