January 18, 201313 yr About to upgrade my graphics card, which is best for the money the ATI 7950 3gig or the GF660Ti 3gig.
January 18, 201313 yr The 660Ti seems to just beat out the 7950 across an average of games, and does much better in FSX.
January 18, 201313 yr Just stay away from AMD cards. Hardware wise they are no worse than NVIDIA, but driver wise they are not so good and particularly FSX suffers from that. Secondly, their CPU aren't the bets performing ones either. So my advice is to stay away from this company. Arjen Vandervelde
January 19, 201313 yr Definitely Nvidia card. I too am considering an upgrade in GPU. I am running I7 2500K overclocked to 4.5 and have a GTX 460. What kind of improvement can I expect with the 660 TI. Not looking for bragging rights but improvements and a bit of future proofing. Plan on switching to Prepar3D when they get to ver 2.0 upgrade. Pro cons of spending more on say the 670 or 680. January 20, 201313 yr The 660 will now be a better match for the 2500K at 4.5, Sam. Without seeing your config, it will allow you to get better frames and a smoother experience, as you can play with your BufferPool, TBM and FFTF settings - all of which will change as a result of the new gpu's ability to take graphics data at a faster rate. i7 [email protected] | 32GB RAM | EVGA RTX 3080Ti | Maximus Hero VII | 512GB 860 Pro | 512GB 850 Pro | 256GB 840 Pro | 2TB 860 QVO | 1TB 870 EVO | Seagate 3TB Cloud | EVGA 1000 GQ | Win10 Pro | EK Custom water cooling.
January 22, 201313 yr Thanks for the feedback guys. Been away from the computer for a couple of days. I went with the 1 x ($309.99) MSI N660 Ti PE 2GD5/OC GeForce GTX 660 Ti 2GB 192-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card from newegg. Looks like the best bang for the buck at the moment. Paul any suggestions on BP ect. settings to try. I am running single 24 inch monitor but may use a second 19 incher for Pro-ATC type stuff. January 22, 201313 yr I think it would be a close match, Sam, but you might try BP=0 first, do a number of identical test flights, starting in the air, and get a feel for the frame rate (30 - set in FSX) if that's good, then you might play with other settings, but without seeing a cfg it's hard to say. I would think that you will end up at BP=1, with a pretty low RT - maybe 125 or 256k. This is one of those settings that has to be "worked at" to get it zoned in. I had BP=0 - 4.9 gig with the 580 , thinking it was the best spot, but three weeks of bashing circles it came out at a BP size of 10MB and an RT of 512k. Was I surprised! You have a nice card there. i7 [email protected] | 32GB RAM | EVGA RTX 3080Ti | Maximus Hero VII | 512GB 860 Pro | 512GB 850 Pro | 256GB 840 Pro | 2TB 860 QVO | 1TB 870 EVO | Seagate 3TB Cloud | EVGA 1000 GQ | Win10 Pro | EK Custom water cooling.
