Loc/App

Featured Replies

does anyone have a simple ( if possible) procedure for when to activate LOC and APP during Autoland. (737NG of course).

I have read many items on this but don't seem to get it. I get different result just about every time. I believe my FMC setup is OK. I have been following ATC ( no lnav) , Freq tuned as per Int Ref page, CRS, Rwy . I have been waitingt for ATC for final then hit LOC. When about DME 5 slect APP. How do I know when I capture GS?

Thanks

Normal procedure is to be in ALT HLD and either LNAV or HDG SEL on LOC intercept heading, LOC armed. When LOC captured press APP.

You will know when you have captured GS when it changes to green on the PFD

Only then can you think about selecting autoland

Try the tutorial flight.

How does one know when it is captured.

The PFD should indicate the roll mode LOC when the localizer has been captured, and the MCP heading should automatically adjust to match that of the runway, at least on the B747. LNAV should disengage if it is used up until the capturing of the localizer. The localizer deviation scale on the PFD should also magnify so only three markers are shown, thus indicating that the localizer has been accurately and properly captured.
