August 16, 200421 yr Peter has proven to be relentless with his water texture creations. This past weekend he sent me a number of different textures and OceanHeightField (OHF) to try with his recently released add-on. In one of his messages he described how I could easily add additional texture packages to FS Water... whatever I wanted!!Water in FS 9 has proven to be the best ever in the MSFS series. Since its release more than a year ago we've been graced with a numbers of artist's interpretations of what water looks like. All these packages have been great. A few months ago (Mike) Cruachan compiled the best from a number of the water texture sets into one water package that looked stunning. Vilk recently gave us his offering. Others too have worked hard to give us options. Indeed many of us spent alot of time choosing what we liked best about each package and then making our own personal water package. With FS Water the process of compiling your own is really easy. For those who own FS Water there is a "Flight One Software" folder in your root FS9 folder. Click on it to get to the FS Water folder, then click again to find the "Texture Sets" folder. Open this and you'll see two folders... "FS Water Default" and "Original Files" (upon installation of FS Water a back-up of whatever water textures you had been using is created for you). Now all you need to do is compile all your preferred water textures in one folder and place it in the "Texture Sets" folder (with the FS Water Default and Original folders). Name your compilation whatever you wish. Next, go into either the FS Water Dafault or Original folder and copy and paste the "TextureInfo.cfg" to your compilation folder. Finally, open the TextureInfo.cfg you've just added to your compilation folder and make one simple change:[Main]Title=FS Water Textures <--- make this the name of your compilation folderDescription=New water textures from FS Water to replace the default water textures in Flight Simulator 2004.NumTextures=11Now when you open the FS Water Interface you can click on the window titled "Select Texture Set" and you should see your compilation folder included in the choices. If you have images you'd like to include with your compilation simply include them in your compilation folder (they must be in bitmap format) and change each "Preview=" line in your TextureInfo.cfg to point to whatever image you wish for each of the 12 selections in the "Select Textures/Subsets to Install" window.Though I've pretty much settled on the FS Water textures (including some new ones that Peter sent me to try... I understand that they'll be part of an upcoming expansion) it is so easy now to make the water precisely as you would like. And if your tastes change (tomorrow you may want to try a different combo) altering what you load into the sim using the FS Water Interface couldn't be easier. I've been having alot of fun flying in different latitudes and locations trying numerous water sets. I now have 3 of my own compilations added to the Teaxture Sets folder.Hopefully we'll see the FS Water Interface expanded to included choices for the OceanHeightField. There are numerous OHF files available for the simmer, and being able to easily choose amongst them along with our preferred texture sets would make the FS Water Interface even more powerful.Have fun,Greg
August 17, 200421 yr Well, why can't someone model water textures that look like they have fish poop in them? In real life fish poop in the water and I'm pretty sure this affects the overall hue of the water from above as would be viewed in an aircraft. The one thing that has really bothered me about FS9 in how fish-poop free all the water textures have always looked. Come on Microsoft!!! Do you guys need a lesson in Marine Biology? Where is the poop? Apparently fish in Flight Simulator 2004 are magic and don't ever poop. How real is this? Not very if you ask me!This is the reason I personally do not like to drink water in real life.
August 17, 200421 yr :-lol :-lol :-lol :-lol :-lol Alex M.p.s. Just reread this reply. :-lol :-lol :-lol :-lol :-lol
August 17, 200421 yr UHHH?Ok, to respond to Soarpics valid comment...Interesting post... Soarpics is a respected member of this community...Could you post some shots of the textures at its best quality?I think I am going to keep an eye on this add on...(hard to convince fligt sim buyer)

Maybe realistic but very groose.2. You can't see poop from high altitudes anyway. The color of water just needs to look dark blue out in the deeper waters and green blue close to the coast. This is the most realistic.
August 17, 200421 yr Well you may be right but I have looked at water from my seat in airliners in real-life and it sure looked to me like you could see fish poop in it. I asked the pretty flight attendant on one of those flights if she could see fish poop in the water we were flying over and she said she really couldn't say. She said the oysters califano I was having for lunch in first class probably had some fish poop in it. Whether or not she was kidding I don't know but I didn't think it was very funny!!! Flight attendants are supposed to reassure passengers not make them nervous. Well, let me tell you, she made me more nervous than reassured that day! I didn't eat the oysters, I stuffed them under the seat instead. At least when I'm playing Flight Simulator I don't have to worry about that kind of stuff and it's less stressful.
August 17, 200421 yr LOL Rugerdog. I'm not sure you should have posted about wanting fish poop textures. Peter seems to me to be the sort of guy who'll try to make anything... so don't be surprised to see some fish poop textures in the future.Princess Julianahttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/88187.jpgOff the So Cal coasthttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/88188.jpgLake Tahoehttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/88189.jpgOff the Lake Districthttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/88190.jpgSydneyhttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/88193.jpgAll files unedited except to resize. I tried to catch the shots while the bump mapping was at maximum. Don't ask me which of my texture sets I used in each of these shots... I'm happy with all of them. I've not shot too many screenies with FS Water because I'm having too much fun. And doing most of my recent virtual flying feet wet. :-)Greg
August 17, 200421 yr Hello xxxxx,Well, I don't know. When you think about it there are a lot of fish in the ocean and also in the lakes. Maybe because they poop so much it causes algebra to form in the water also. I am never drinking any water again because of all of this now.A big Howdy to all of you nice people in Sweden!!! I have always said that Sweden is better than Norway and I still adhere to this perception. My sister bought some Norweigan formula hand lotion one time and it turned out it to be made in Mexico if you can believe that. So either Norway sold the formula to Mexico legally or just told Mexico that they could make the stuff and pretend like it was made in Norway, I don't know. But it will be a cold day in Calcutta before I spend my hand earned tourist dollars to go visit Norway now I will tell you that!!!I still like people from Sweden though. My sister just buys Wal-Mart brand hand lotion now and I have no idea where that is made.
August 17, 200421 yr Rugerdog, whatever you have been eating/drinking/smoking, it might be a good idea to stop :-hahSoarpics, yeah, looking pretty sweet, although, your post does come across as a bit of an "advertisment feature" ;).Still, might have to take the plunge (pun intended) and try them out, at least F1 has a 30 day money back guarantee.Dan.
August 17, 200421 yr "Rugerdog, whatever you have been eating/drinking/smoking, it might be a good idea to stop "Roger that!"Soarpics, yeah, looking pretty sweet, although, your post does come across as a bit of an "advertisment feature"."Sorry, Dan, no intent here. I'm just having too much fun with this package. I think it may be because it fulfills that tweaking urge within me... I can make the water look like whatever I want. And it's now so easy to do.Cheers,Greg
August 17, 200421 yr I took the plunge the other day and got FSWater and am glad I did. I'm very pleased with how it all looks. I've done quite a bit of float plane flying lately. :-)Willhttp://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/ng_driver.jpg
