Bearcat portover to FSX / VC glass issue

Featured Replies

I've been trying to get the Bearcat ready to race in FSX but I'm struggling with the portover from FS9 and I wonder if one of you had the same issue, as I know quite a few use this aircraft.

The problem I'm having is opaque VC cockpit glass at dusk/night. Searching the web has told me it's most likely an issue with alpha channels that need modifying, but I haven't found a fix specific for this aircraft. Has anyone had the same problem and found a workaround, or do you just limit it to flying either in daylight or from the 2D cockpit?

Thanks for any help anyone can offer!

Nick,

I tried and tried last year to get rid of it through the alpha-channel in the texture with no success. I believe it's a tag in the model itself how it treats the texture. Use FS9 for bearcat night flights. :P

Maybe I'll give it another go in the next few days. Fingers crossed.

IT'S FIXED!!!! Kind of, there is a problem with "tearing" of the windscreen which I couldn't resolve. It shows up in daytime too (lights on or off) if one would zoom in very close.. It's the same thing just more pronounced at night. Most likely caused by the port-over incompatibility. Anyhow it's leaps and bounds better than before, can actually see outside. It's on Eamonn's FTP.

Thanks Roman!! I just tried it, huge improvement over where we were before.

What I get now is a mostly transparent view at night in the VC, it should be good enough in decent vis and if the runway we're aiming for is lit.

I also noticed that if you turn all the aircraft lights off, the glass goes completely clear and you have a perfect view, but with the slight(!) downside that you can't see your instruments very well. I wonder if making a small pop-up panel with the key gauges might get around this? I'm on a business trip for the next couple of nights so I'll maybe have a go at this while I'm away. If I get anywhere I'll let you know.

Thanks again!!

Nick,

What I'll try is re-doing the cockpit lighting .fx so it's very small but just large enough to get the instruments only to light and keep away from the canopy..

Edit- getting better. The main problem is something to do with the rain textures. If it's a clear sky the fix works good , once rain starts falling the tearing returns. I already have used the Flight1 VC rain fix. Return to stock rain textures is a no-go as the original opaque canopy returns.. Going to take a look at the mods the F1 tool did and try to get those into the .bmp - fingers crossed again.. sooo very close!

Edit again - it's only rain that causes the tearing, snow, fog etc.. all good.

Yet another edit.. Looks like this is as good as it's going to get. Was trying to get clearer windows w/ different colors/alphas DXT5/3 etc..., w/ no success. Even tried a custom gauge I made with both Luminous & Bright tags set to "Yes", VC's ignore these tags. So it's down to using the 2D panel either by itself, or layered on top of VC, or undocked to a second monitor for a nasty IFR landing. A custom 2D panel will be good too w/ just the necessary instruments for an IFR landing.

O U Betcha Eamonn! LOL! but--

V2 is up! :db: (Eamonn's FTP) It provides the same transparency as in FS9.. There remains the problem of tearing when raining but the daytime textures do this too. Unfix-able.

Happy Bearcat-ing !

Hi Roman,

Thanks a lot for your efforts, I'll try it when I get home, probably not until Friday though. Shortly before I jump into something with 3 engines/wings/tails....
