  1. A question for those who have MSFS (MS store version) installed on more than one machine, using a single MS/Xbox account: it's mentioned above that the settings transfer between the PCs. What if I don't want this? Example: running on a higher-end desktop and a lower-end laptop (still meeting minimum requirements), I'd want to run the two with different settings, to manage performance. Does this mean I'd need to redo all my settings every time I'd move from one machine to the other, or is it possible to maintain two different sets of settings, one on each machine?
  2. @Tinribs Thanks; you're right, updating Windows, Store, Xbox and any other apps is the first thing to do at any sign of trouble with MSFS, and if that doesn't fix it I run repairs on all of them. But this issue goes beyond that.
  3. @JYW Thanks for the hints Bill, I don’t remember if I tried the gaming services repair tool but I’ll give it a go next time. Getting Windows to forget the accounts sounds worth trying also.
  4. I’ve been wrestling with what sounds like the same problem for the last couple of months and been through all the usual troubleshooting steps without success. For me, the problem seems to be related to the Xbox app and Gaming Services setup. My fix is to uninstall and reinstall the Xbox app, then launch MSFS from inside the Xbox app (the last part may be unnecessary). However, the problem returns whenever the PC is shut down, so now I put it to sleep rather than shutting down daily. Roll on MSFS 2024 when I’ll buy on Steam and not have to deal any longer with this shambolic Microsoft delivery system. Lesson learned.
  5. There was a comment on their Facebook suggesting that they considered the Marketplace to be too slow to set this up, and might not allow the deal anyway, so it’s offered on the developer’s own site. I had no trouble with the process.

  7. I am having the same issues that others are obviously having, unable to copy the .DLL files into the Store version Flight Simulator folder in C:\Program Files\WindowsApps. I've spent the last couple of hours wrestling with permissions and ownership etc, I can now get into the folder but I can't copy anything into it. I've seen suggestions that some versions of Windows (I have W10 Home) just don't allow it, in which case, this mod is going to be inacccessible to a good number of us. Can anyone shed any light on this?
  8. Anticipating the release of the Vulcan, I picked up the payware IM Scenery EGXP Scampton during the Black Friday sales and I'm very happy I did. There are decent freeware Vulcan bases around, as Paul K says above, but such a good model deserves a high quality home!
  9. I think Jeff has chosen his words very carefully! 😱
  10. This is a great flight plan Bry but I'm sorry I'm not going to be able to make it - cricket final this time. As I won't be on, here are a few notes on the approach to Courchevel: Approach the waypoint before the airport at 7,000ft and in a C172, one notch of flaps and 70 knots. Keep as close as you can to the hillside on your left before turning onto the runway centreline. Descend towards the aiming point which is the middle of the grass bank below the runway. Stiil one notch of flaps and 70 knots in a C172 - you are supposed to be above normal approach speed. The slope of the runway makes it look as though you're too high - don't be tempted to descend too much otherwise it's game over. Flare with nosewheel high due to the slope. Oh, and there's no goaround, just a decision where exactly you want to hit the mountain 🤣 Sorry I won't be there to witness the carnage! 😧 Click here for a reminder what happens if you land too late!
  11. Sounds like you're going through what I went through last night. The good news is the fix was easy - once I found it in the AVSIM forums. I needed to install the "Xbox app" from the Microsoft store. There are other apps with "Xbox" in their name, but the one you want is just called "Xbox app". Once this was installed (and I ran it once), the update showed up under Microsoft Flight Simulator in the M$ store and it all went easily from there with the usual shenanigans of installing the content in the marketplace, etc. No, it doesn't make any sense. Yes, whoever at MS/Asobo was responsible for the update process should be relegated to emptying the office bins.
  12. Completely agree! I have a 9 year old son and he sometimes flies MSFS. I used to start him in the air flying something easy with all assists on and crash/damage off, and now he can take off himself and is starting to have a go at landing. Just keep it simple. Covering the very basics of flying (aileron/elevator controls, airspeed enough to stay in the air) is enough to start with. Then let them fly and see if they get bitten by the bug. Good luck!
  13. Yes, but I haven't flown there yet as I first need to figure out how to fly a DC-6 that far. I'm on short hops while I learn it. Expect Iceland to be putting in an appearance on a Saturday flight in the not distant future though.
  14. Hmmm, I'm sure there's something familiar-looking about this area... 😛
  15. Thanks Mike, those all look like nice additions. I searched "Florida" and not a lot came up. I should have tried a few more keywords.
  16. South Florida and the Keys We'll start at Key West (KEYW) and follow US1 towards the mainland, passing the Seven Mile Bridge, Marathon and Key Largo, making stops at the few landing strips in the Keys. We then head into the Miami metropolitan area for some signtseeing, and make our way up the coast past the many resorts. I've picked out a few interesting looking landing places, so let's go and see what's there. If we make good time we might get as far as a tour of Cape Canaveral, finishing at Space Coast Regional airport (KTIX). Flight plans Download here. Aircraft We want to cruise around 140kts. I'll be in the Piaggio P.149D. As usual, fly what you like. Scenery This flight is designed for MSFS default scenery, no downloads required. 17. Will join for the first hour... Champions League final kicks off at 1900UTC.
  18. Pseudo-Pilots' Guide A few points of interest for this Saturday's flight. China clay mining in Cornwall Eden Project Plymouth Hoe Dartmoor Jurassic Coast
  19. We’ve returned to Land’s End (EGHC) after two weeks in the Scillies. Depart and fly east towards the port of Falmouth (waypoint), then northeast eventually crossing the large china clay pits to land at Roche Barton (EGRO). Leave southeast to the waypoint at the Eden Project then east to Plymouth. The waypoint is at Plymouth Hoe and the Citadel. Now we turn northeast to cross Dartmoor before turning back towards the coast. Passing the waypoint DAWLY we can fly up the River Exe estuary before turning to make our approach into Exeter airport (EGTE). After Exeter airport we skirt the north side of the city of Exeter and continue up the Exe valley (feel free to fly low here) to Stoodleigh Barton (EGUH) farm strip. Next head southeast to Dunkeswell (EGTU) then to Branscombe (EGTQ) on the coast. We can now follow the coastline all the way to the waypoint between Weymouth and Portland. Turn across Weymouth harbour on our way to Bournemouth airport (EGHH), then across The Solent to the Isle of Wight, landing at Bembridge (EGHJ). The last leg takes us past Portsmouth, after which we can fly up Southampton Water to our destination at Southampton airport (EGHI). Flightplan can be downloaded here. Aircraft I have set up this plan with the Piaggio P.149 or a similar aircraft cruising around 120-140 kts in mind. The Arrow or a number of the default aircraft will also work well. Scenery EGRO Roche Barton airstrip - recommended, as the default airport is in the wrong location Plymouth Hoe – optional upgrade adds detail to the Hoe and Citadel area EGTE Exeter airport – optional upgrade EGHJ Bembridge airport – optional upgrade The AI ships addon may well be worth having on this flight, especially when we get close to Southampton. 20. NOTAM I suggest setting departure time to 1630 local (1530 UTC) for an evening sunshine arrival in the Scillies. Live weather is looking good for this evening but there may be a light 45kt breeze from the east as we get down towards Land's End, if the sim replicates real weather.
  21. I haven't been involved in the discussions or testing around this issue, but from what I have read it would sound as though anyone changing aircraft during the flight could kick off a fair bit of mayhem if they were to select a non-stock paint for it - have I got that right? If this is the case, then the suggestion could be that anyone who needs to change aircraft should stick to provided paints and steer clear of addon paints. Would that work as a rule of thumb?
  22. Pilot's Guide (of sorts) Some points of interest for tomorrow's flight: Bristol Filton airport Severn Bore Bristol Clifton Suspension Bridge Glastonbury Tor Exmoor RAF Chivenor Lundy Newquay airport Isles of Scilly And to make sure you're paying attention: why did Sarah Ann Henley become famous in 1885?
  23. The flight starts at Filton (EGTG) in Bristol – now disused and being built over, but it has been kindly reinstated by Asobo. Looking to the northwest after takeoff you will see two large bridges over the estuary of the River Severn. Head towards the southernmost of these; if you have the addon scenery it’s safe for underflight. After inspecting the underside head to the waypoint inland marking the start of the Avon Gorge, which you will want to be well down inside to pass under the Clifton Suspension Bridge (yes, you can). Continue along the river and look to the left as you exit the gorge to see Bristol city centre. Leaving Bristol to the south we get to our first stop at Bristol’s regional airport (EGGD). We continue south across the Mendip Hills and over the Somerset Levels to Glastonbury and the waypoint at its Tor. Now turn west towards the Quantock Hills and Exmoor from where we can begin our approach into the former RAF base at Chivenor (EGDC) where we make our next stop (officially closed but the runway is in conspicuously good repair). After leaving Chivenor we take a short dogleg to cross the Taw and Torridge estuary before we turn out to Lundy Island, on which there is a small airstrip suitable for small light aircraft (EGZV). Return to the mainland at Hartland Point and continue down the north coast into Cornwall to the former WW2 base at Davidstow Moor (EGJV). Bodmin Moor will be on our left as we depart to the next stop at Newquay airport (EGHQ), until recently RAF St Mawgan. After Newquay we could do a quick touch’n’go at Perranporth (EGTP) depending on how time is going, on our way to Land’s End (EGHC). The last leg takes us out to the Isles of Scilly, where it may be worth a little cruise around before landing at St Mary’s (EGHE). Flightplan Can be downloaded here. Aircraft I have set up this plan with the Piaggio P.149 or a similar aircraft cruising around 120-140 kts in mind. The Arrow or a number of the default aircraft will also work well. MSFS Scenery Severn Bridges (if you fly under the default bridges you do so at your own risk) Glastonbury Tor (small enhancement adds the ruined tower on top, nice but not needed) Lundy Island (recommended for the airstrip and island enhancements) Newquay airport (not required) St Mary’s airport and Isles of Scilly (recommended) Bristol city (very optional) I debated using the Bristol city scenery but elected not to as you end up with two Suspension Bridges. If you aren't bothered by the duplicate bridge(s) but would like to see the representations of the city's historic buildings, feel free to do so. 24. What happens when a pilot doesn't have an addon aircraft that others are flying - do these stutters still happen? I have just the one addon aircraft and with the current state of the sim I have no intention of investing further until better stability is demonstrated.
