Frame generation for all RTX cards
I am having the same issues that others are obviously having, unable to copy the .DLL files into the Store version Flight Simulator folder in C:\Program Files\WindowsApps. I've spent the last couple of hours wrestling with permissions and ownership etc, I can now get into the folder but I can't copy anything into it. I've seen suggestions that some versions of Windows (I have W10 Home) just don't allow it, in which case, this mod is going to be inacccessible to a good number of us. Can anyone shed any light on this?

It's Sheep Scaring Time! Mach Attack, Part 1
What is the source of the AI that you see? Is it the FSX default AI, or a commercial AI package, or various individual packages that you've added? As I understand it... if you have any FS9 traffic bgl's in your FSX installation then you will still see the all the FS9 traffic, but any FSX traffic bgl's won't show up. So you can still have lots of AI, it will be all the stuff from the FS9 bgl's. The FS9 boat traffic file should mean that no FSX traffic files will show up. Solution is either to convert the Wattisham traffic to FS9 format using TrafficTools or something similar, or convert your FS9 bgl's to FSX.

It's Sheep Scaring Time! Mach Attack, Part 1
Stew, I have the AI Phantoms package working at Wattisham so confirm it can do what it's supposed to. It was a while ago that I set it up so don't remember every step but don't think it was much of a struggle. Even managed to change half the Phantoms to Lightnings so both are stationed there. The thing about AI that often trips me up is that if you have a FS2004 traffic file present anywhere in your sim, it means no FSX traffic file will work (at least that's what I understand, someone correct me if I'm wrong). You can have one format or the other, but not a mixture of both.

It's Sheep Scaring Time! Mach Attack, Part 1
LOL! I was working on flying the RAZBAM Harrier for this one, but I'm really not familiar enough with it yet (especially if anyone demands to see a vertical landing). So it's going to be the Phantom, which thanks to our SE Asia experiences is the jet I'm most comfortable in now. And yes, it can fly along happily at <300kts, I found that if you don't push those two levers on the left all the way forward, you don't go as fast.... I'll try to remember the duenna when we leave Waddington!

It's Sheep Scaring Time! Mach Attack, Part 1
This week's highly anticipated flight will begin with a tour of the principal military airfields in the south of England, and will culminate in a run round the famous "Mach Loop" low-level training area in Wales. We'll begin at MoD Boscombe Down, the UK's aircraft testing centre and home of the Empire Test Pilots School. Our first stop will be RAF Brize Norton, a military transport hub. Next we visit the former RAF Wattisham, which was a front-line fighter base for Lightnings and Phantoms (Ron, we expect a guided tour!). We will call in at RAF Lakenheath, home of the USAF's 48th Fighter Wing before making our way north to RAF Coningsby, home of the Eurofighter Typhoon and of the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight, and then RAF Waddington before we head west into Wales to the Mach Loop, named after the nearby village of Machynlleth. After a lap or 2 (or 3) of the loop terrifying the local ovine population, we can then finish at RAF Valley on the isle of Anglesey. Aircraft suggestions have been covered in a separate post. Flight plans FSX Plan-G Scenery Nothing special required; Orbx England & Wales are likely to enhance the experience, as does the FTX Global + Vector + EU Landclass + Mesh package. A decent mesh is probably advisable; if you don't already have something applicable to the UK, there is a freeware UK mesh in the AVSIM library. Freeware enhancements: there are a number of worthwhile freeware airfield enhancements available: RAF Wattisham - ACG RAF Coningsby - ACG RAF Waddington - John Young RAF Valley - MSPG ... and even a small scenery adding aircraft spotters at various points on the Mach Loop! (thanks MSPG and Mike) Date and time: Saturday 17 September 2016, 1800 UTC Where: AVSIM RTWR Teamspeak - Casual Flights Channel Teamspeak Server Address: ts.teamavsim.com Multiplayer: FSX Multiplayer (IP will be provided on Teamspeak) If you want to help others enjoy the multiplayer experience, don't forget to enter your aircraft details on the multiplayer spreadsheet! (linked here) Note to Ron: Please set server time to 1100 Local, and I suggest turning the date back to August, as I got some very strange looking autumn textures when I tried it using the real date!

Upcoming UK / Mach Loop flights - some aircraft suggestions
An F-86 should be very suitable for this flight! Hope you can join us. We should be getting to the Mach Loop something like 2030 UTC on Saturday.

Upcoming UK / Mach Loop flights - some aircraft suggestions
Mach Loop Practice Here is the flight plan I use for practice. Fortunately there is an (actually disused) 8000ft long runway at nearby Llanbedr that we can use as a base. The north entrance to the loop is just 12nm away. But while flying in the loop I am following the roads and rivers as visual references. FSX format Plan-G A good resource is machloop.co.uk, where there is also a very helpful map. The scenery I am running is FTX Global + Vector + EU Landclass + Pilots FS Global 2010 mesh - you can see from the screenshot what I get, which seems to compare well with Google Earth images and the videos on YouTube. I dare say Orbx Wales region scenery might add a bit more detail but isn't required. The most important scenery element for this exercise must surely be a good mesh. If you don't have any mesh improvement that covers Wales, there is a decent UK mesh in the AVSIM library which I used to use - download here. Glad you like the Goshawk! Fear not, you'll still get to fly the loop! My idea is to do it at the end of the first flight, stop for the week at RAF Valley nearby, then do it again at the start of the second flight - giving another bite at the cherry for anyone who can't make the first one or who scatters their aircraft across a Welsh mountainside on the first attempt!

Sunset Limited
I'm not feeling too good today so I won't be joining you for the whole flight this evening, I'll drop in and say hello sometime though and might join for just a leg or two. Hope you have a good one and I should be OK to set up the Mach Loop flights starting next weekend.

Upcoming UK / Mach Loop flights - some aircraft suggestions
For the Saturday flights on 17th and 24th September I am putting together flight plans involving the famous "Mach Loop" in Wales. This is a low-level military training area where both RAF and USAF pilots hone their skills in the dramatic scenery of the Welsh mountains. A quick search on YouTube for "Mach Loop" will result in many examples of what we're up against, as the Mach Loop is a favourite spot for photographers and videographers. The most appropriate (and exciting) aircraft to fly will be military fast jets. However, as these are something of a departure from the usual suspects for our Saturday flights I thought I would post some suggestions for some suitable, nicely modelled and easy to learn freeware jets for those who don't already have something in their hangars. There's no need to fly a Mach 2+ beast, a jet trainer or early subsonic jet will be ideal. If a fast jet is really not your thing, the next best alternative would be a warbird or maybe a turboprop trainer (e.g. IRIS Pilatus PC-9, freeware). Otherwise, pick up your fastest GA aircraft and put it through its paces! The Blue Ridge
Looks like a very nice route Mike! Unfortunately I will be away on holiday for the next two weekends but I will certainly fly this when I get back. I lived in VA for 4 years so I know some of the area fairly well. Never got down as far as the Great Smoky Mountains though, I wished I had. Hope everyone has a lot of fun with this on Saturday!

Pilgrimage to Lourdes
Looks like I'll have to join late, watching Olympic cycling road race and we've got three Brits in contention, no way I'll miss the finish having watched for five hours!

Bush Flying in the Frank Church - River of No Return Wilderness
Roman, a big thank you for the C185 mods. I used the "standard" mod for last night's flight and it made quite a difference! Hope you've had a great weekend with real aircraft too.

Norway while it's light.
For those who don't follow football ("soccer"), or who are fortunate enough to not follow the England team, this is what Ron is talking about: http://www.thelocal.no/20120208/football-commentators-maggie-thatcher-outburst-makes-unesco-list Thanks for the flight plan Ron! Looking forward to it.

Balkans Part 4: Corfu to Kalamata
It's an optical illusion, I did clear the fence (I hope!). Slightly more concerned by the motionless prop....... (just kidding, we already know about that) Thanks Roman, great pics as always.

Balkans Part 4: Corfu to Kalamata
The fourth and final part of our Balkans tour takes us from Corfu where we left off last week down the west coast of Greece and terminates at Kalamata at the south end of the Peloponnese. Flightplans FSX Plan-G Aircraft The route is 285 nm so I recommend an aircraft capable of cruising over 150-160 knots. I'll be in an A2A Comanche, but as always fly what you like. As everyone's flying something faster and my flight last week was a bit of disaster, I'm going to fly the Lancair Legacy. Scenery For Corfu we have a freeware scenery in the AVSIM library: LGKR Corfu. This is a significant improvement over the default. There are also nice payware sceneries by Aerosoft and FlyTampa. Several of the airports we will visit are included in the Orbx Global Freeware airports for Europe so make sure you're up-to-date on these if you want to see them. Mesolonghi (LGME) doesn't exist in FS but has been made by Vassilios Dimoulas as part of a package including the Rio Antirio Bridge (worth a little detour). The full package is quite extensive but if you just install the airport and bridge parts (the folders in Addon Scenery) you'll have all you need for this flight. Get the package from the AVSIM library here. Kalamata LGKL has also been the subject of a freeware upgrade, available here in the AVSIM library. Where and When Date and time: Saturday 2nd July 2016, 1800 UTC Where: AVSIM RTWR Teamspeak - Casual Flights Channel Teamspeak Server Address: ts.teamavsim.com Multiplayer: FSX Multiplayer (IP will be provided on Teamspeak) If you want to help others enjoy the multiplayer experience, don't forget to enter your aircraft details on the multiplayer spreadsheet! (linked here) Note to Ron: please set the server start time to 1600 local time. Update on my PC issues: I ran a RAM test and got multiple errors. Took the DIMM modules out, put them back, retested and it passed. No BSODs or problems since, so fingers crossed it was just memory that needed reseating.

SOH Summer Race Event - Vietnam Jets
Brexit, Iceland beating England and now Ron Attwood in a supersonic jet.. three things I thought I'd never see, all in the space of a week! The world order is certainly changing 😛 Well done, Ron!

Balkans Part 3: Dubrovnik to Corfu
For the benefit of Ron's diminishing brain cells, start time 1530 local.

Balkans Part 3: Dubrovnik to Corfu
This week, the third part of our Balkans tour takes us between the two Adriatic holiday destinations of Dubrovnik in Croatia to the Greek island of Corfu via the mountainous interior of Montenegro, Kosovo and Albania. Flightplans FSX Plan-G Aircraft The route is 327 nm so I recommend an aircraft capable of cruising over 200 knots. I'll be in a Lancair Legacy, but as always fly what you like. Scenery The recent move by SkyHighSim to make their sceneries available as freeware provides us with a very nice scenery for Tivat, Montenegro (LYTV). I installed the scenery with no problems, but make sure you add the three scenery folders to your scenery library, with the airport scenery above the landclass and photoscenery folders. SkyHighSim Tivat For Corfu we have a freeware scenery in the AVSIM library: LGKR Corfu. This is a significant improvement over the default. There are also nice payware sceneries by Aerosoft and FlyTampa. Where and When Date and time: Saturday 25th June 2016, 1800 UTC Where: AVSIM RTWR Teamspeak - Casual Flights Channel Teamspeak Server Address: ts.teamavsim.com Multiplayer: FSX Multiplayer (IP will be provided on Teamspeak) If you want to help others enjoy the multiplayer experience, don't forget to enter your aircraft details on the multiplayer spreadsheet! What's Your longest Flight in FSX
London Gatwick to Melbourne, PMDG 777 Emirates, 18 hours 37 minutes, 9118nm. The reason for the flight was to go from my home airport, Gatwick, to Melbourne for the start of the Reverse London-Melbourne race a couple of years ago. I arrived in Melbourne with a fair bit of fuel left, so one day I'm going to try Gatwick to Auckland, which is about as far as I can go from London.

Balkans Part 2: Pula to Sarajevo
Hope you can make it Ron, good luck with the PC. 1430Z / 1530 local should be fine, gives us 3.5 hours before dusk so sun should be heading down as we get to Sarajevo. Sorry to hear that, I didn't have any problems with the scenery except disabling FTX Vector AEC for the three mentioned. That decides it then, I'll go with the Skymaster (with the MP flooding fix).

Balkans Part 2: Pula to Sarajevo
Part 2 of our Balkans tour before a short hiatus (I'll be away for 2 weeks). Starting from where we finished last week at Pula (LDPL), we head down the Adriatic coast of Croatia, first stopping in the islands at Unije (LDPN) then Losinj (LDLO) before going back to dry land at Zadar (LDZD). Continuing down the coast to Split (LDSP), Brac Island (LDSB - maybe just a TNG) and Ploce (LDDP) before turning inland and into Bosnia-Herzegovina, stopping at Mostar (LQMO) before finishing at the capital Sarajevo (LQSA). Flightplans FSX Plan-G Aircraft The route is 251 miles, similar to last week, so GA aircraft in the 160-180 knots cruise range would be ideal. I'll be deciding between a Comanche and a Cessna 337 but as always, fly what you like. Scenery FTX Global textures, FTX Global Europe landclass (or equivalents) and a decent mesh will make everything prettier. For freeware junkies we have a few upgrades in the AVSIM library done by Carlo Boninsegna: Pula (used last week) Unije & Losinj (single package) Zadar There is also a freeware upgrade package covering much of Bosnia-Herzegovina at the vACC-BiH website. The BiH VFR package for FSX includes airport upgrades for Mostar and Sarajevo, and adds 60 landmarks around the city of Sarajevo for us to explore. Note on FTX Vector airport elevation corrections: I had to disable AEC for LDPL, LDZD and LQSA. Where and When Date and time: Saturday 28th May 2016, 1800 UTC Where: AVSIM RTWR Teamspeak - Casual Flights Channel Teamspeak Server Address: ts.teamavsim.com Multiplayer: FSX Multiplayer (IP will be provided on Teamspeak) If you want to help others enjoy the multiplayer experience, don't forget to enter your aircraft details on the multiplayer spreadsheet! (linked here) Note to Ron: I suggest a server start time around 1430Z, as we'll want a bit of light left when we get to Sarajevo.
