FSX API.Dll and CTD

Featured Replies

Hi there, I am posting here today, as I have been having this annoying problem with the Carenado C90B aircraft. It crashes FSX after about 90 minutes, and if I lower my settings, I have a CTD after just a few minutes. My system is a Windows 7 -64, Core duo E8400 overclocked @ 4.0, stable, after quite a few Prime95 hours, stressing both cores, 4 GB RAM, Nvidia GT8800. I have also installed UTX, GEX, Experience X for lights, REX and Opus for the weather. Below is the error message I keep having after the crash, as reported by Windows Event Viewer.

By the way, I was having CTD problems with the Wilco Boeing, Pilot in Command, when FSX would crash after a little over an hour into the flight. Back then I did not have UTX, GEX, any weather engine, but my CPU was at stock speed, 3.0 Ghz.

Let's see if someone can shed some light, by looking at the report. FYI: FSX is located under Program files (86), and maybe that is not the best location, but whenever I do a clean install I try to install it under C:\, but it won't let me, giving me Program Files as the only option.

Anyways, I am willing to uninstall FSX, and start all over, with the Carenado C90B only, and no other add on, and see what happens.

Looking forward to your suggestions and support, regards

Enrico

When the installer shows where it will install FSX, I believe you have to hit an Options button on the screen that will give you the opportunity to select any directory you want. I have had mine installed in the Program Files (x86) directory ever since I owned FSX and have not had any problems but realize this is definitely a solution for many. You mentioned a 'report'. Did you plan on posting the crash report here? That would be nice but I would try uninstalling FSX and reinstalling it in the C:\FSX directory first. For uninstall/reinstalling FSX, I recommend the following guide: http://support.precisionmanuals.com/KB/a87/how-to-uninstall-and-reinstall-fsx.aspx.

An api.dll is hard to determine the exact cause of the crash. It is most likely related to memory configurations - system memory or virtual memory.

Be careful with your overclock. A wrong CPU voltage (too high or too low) will cause your sim to crash. Same with your system memory. Wrong settings for frequency, timings, and DRAM voltage will cause a crash even though it passes Prime95 or the IntelBurnTest. I know from experience.

Best regards,

Jim

Hello Jim, and thanks for your thorough explanation. I'll reinstall FSX under C:\,with the C90B only, with no overclock, no add on and see how it behaves. If I experience more CTD, I'll report the complete Windows Event log here. Let's keep our fingers crossed. Thank you very much again!

You're one of the first who is talking logical Enrico. If you do get a CTD though, please download and run AppCrashView - http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/app_crash_view.html and copy and paste the error report here. It sometimes provides more info than the Event Viewer. Good luck!

Best regards,

Jim

Hi Jim, here is a report, after a two hour flight and a CTD:

error1el.pngerror2op.png

This is just one report, as I do not have all the other ones. But maybe from this one you can tell where the problem is. For sure, mine is not the newest PC around, the cpu is a core duo, E8400, and I am just waiting for the Haswell cpu to upgrade. But in the meantime, it would be good if you could read the report, and tell me what the issue is. Thanks in advance, take care,

Enrico

Here is another one I found from the previous days:

The faulting module for your crash was the MSVCR80.dll which is part of the Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable package. You have the latest version installed. The MSV 2005 is required to properly install FSX/Acceleration to your computer. When installing FSX, the installer will look for this package and, if not installed, it will install it before installing FSX/Acceleration. Normally an update would fix this problem but you have the latest version. If you recently install Acceleration, uninstall it, run FSX, close FSX, then reinstall Acceleration. This usually fixes this problem.

You also received the Status_Invalid_Parameter exception code (000d). This could mean a third party software program for fsx is not running properly. I suspect Experience X for lights.

I thought you were going to move FSX to C:\FSX. I see it is still located in the default folder - C:\Program Files (x86). This is probably okay. I have mine there and no problems but some have fixed their problems by installing FSX in a non-default directory.

The AppCrashView program at the link I provided above provides more detailed information. The info you provided above is extremely limited but think I have solved your problem with an uninstall of Acceleration. You can uninstall Acceleration by going into Add/Remove Programs. This will not damage your installation of FSX.

Best regards,

Jim

Hello Jim,

I still have FSX under Program files, as I have tried to run some more tests before reinstalling it. Tonight I will uninstall Acceleration, and will installing it again. One other thing I will do is uninstall Experience X without reinstalling it, and will also install AppCrashView, as you suggested. Let's see if this fixes my CTD. If not, my next report will be from AppCrashViewe.

Your support is much appreciated, I will let you know on how things develop, let's see if we can nail this thing....regards

Hello Jim,

last night I uninstalled Acceleration, and was not able to open FSX anymore, so I decided to follow the guide you linked and uninstalled FSX as well, cleaned up my PC of any leftovers, and reinstalled both FSX (this time under C:\) and Acceleration. Within the next few hours, or days, I'll be adding my add ons like GEX, UTX, Scenerytech, and the King Air. Only then I'll be running some tests, and see how it goes. I have also downloaded App CrashView, just in case. I'll keep you posted on how things are going. In the meantime, thank you for you support and suggestions, take care
