Airport draw distance

Featured Replies

If possible, does anyone know how to increase an airport draw distance (I think that's what you call it). Basically, I would like to be able to see my destination airport from further out. I fly VFR and I hate it when the airport just pops up in front of you and then it is a made scramble to try and line yourself up with the runway. Many thanks.

How close are you when the field of your choice "pops up" in front of you?? Are you flying into grass strips?? When flying into a paved field I can usually visually pick up the airport 7-8 miles out. More if it's a major airport--but it usually isn't, I tend to fly into second level airports.

Check out Greenbrier Aero Club, the VA for and about the GA pilot.

I usually use charts, vors.dme equipment to get me to the airport etc, since its ok during the day you should be able to pick out your airport, but its different flying at night time and with low cloud cover than it doesnt matter how close your able to see the airport
