FS Painter models for AI

Featured Replies

Three questions regarding FSPainter:First, what is the status of FSP? I see some of their (old?) models on the PAI website, but is there a body of up-to-date work separate from that?Secondly, does anyone have an opinion on FSP's models versus Project AI offerings, both in terms of quality of the visual and flight model and frame rate impact? I'm particularly interested in aircraft which aren't covered by Aardvark or ARNZ and the like e.g. A330, A340, B777. Lastly, following on from that, can anyone tell me where to get current FSP models and repaints in an efficient manner? I see them pop up on Avsim now and then but there doesn't seem to be a home website and, unless I'm missing something, which is always very possible, frankly it all seems a bit haphazard.

Fspainter is not as organised as Aardvark or PAI. Model updates show up in the avsim library camouflaged as comlete packages with repaint and all, such as the "airbus widebodies" package. Not that there are more than one update that I'm aware of, namely the one that introduced LOD-modelling and specular reflections in most of the models. Most of them should be in the library. There was also a webpage that had all the fs9 .air-file updates, but unfortunately I lost the link. Perhaps google can find it.http://members.at.infoseek.co.jp/FSpainter/ appears to be some kind of homepage, with directions to where you can find the packages, but many links are probably dead, since they stem from the good old fs2002 days.Btw I think fsp is superior to PAI and ARNZ, and only Aardvark is a serious competitor, but Aardvark lack the cool working reverser feature. Still prefer Aardvark for the Boing widebodies though, as they look smoother. -

I'm a big fan of FSP's models. The original FSP MD-80 model was so much better than the default FS2K2 MD-80 that I've tried to use FSP models over all others.Aardvark's models provide a nice supplement. In the event both FSP and Aardvark have the same model, I just experiment and see which one I like better. FSP does have the cool thrust reverse animations, though.PAI's big jet models, as much as I appreciate PAI, are a distant third to FSP and Aardvark.I do like PAI's B717 though. And their smaller turbo prop commuter and RJ fleets are the best. Overall, each provider contributes to the sim. Also try CDAI for jetlinersWith regard to site access and availability, FSP is one person, and the repainters. Between AVSIM and the smaller sites, you can amass quite a diverse fleet.I did most of the searching via Google, etc. Lots of Asian sites that you have to slog through. There are a few German and Dutch sites that have some FSP repaints.FS9 FDEs are available. I have the file. I believe it's just titled "FS9 FDE Updates." You just have to invest some time searching around. There's treasure to be found, lad!!!Rick

I still can't decide about FSP models, they have great looking models when they are sitting on the ground, but whenever I've noticed flight dynamic problems or textures not showing up correctly (ie steering wheels on airplanes popping up only when aircraft is close by), lights not showing up correctly, and I am starting to use just aardvark and pai unless FSP is planning on doing model and lightmap updates

I would LOVE if anyone could send me the blank textures for the CRJ, as many know, I'm a slave to that plane, and am dying to paint some up for the AI nuts!2ndCRJSig.gif[/a][a href=http://library.avsim.net/search.php?CatID=root&SearchTerm=fritsche&Sort=Added&ScanMode=0&Go=Change+View]My work...[/a][a href=http://www.airliners.net/search/photo.search?photographersearch=Danny%20Fritsche&distinct_entry=true]See me at Airliners.net...[/a][a href=http://www.jetphotos.net/showphotos.php?userid=6673]Also at jetphotos.net...[/a]

Thanks for the infoI'm happy with the many Aardvark and ARNZ models I use (and the Aardvark site shows occasional flashes or humour!)It's the remnant PAI aircraft I'm interested in replacing: some of them look quite clunky compared to the above.Anyway, at least I know there isn't a shortcut to FSP, but that their stuff seems OK. So I'll have a go.If I'm lucky, once I've finished fiddling with AI and trying to tweak decent performance out of an ageing PC, I might even do some flying!!

Thanks, 2nd link looks good.I knew about the first, but it is hopeless, bad links on half of it, search facility leads nowhere....Thanks anyway, not your fault the website is no good!

In addition to what have been mentioned, if you search the library in "Original aircrafts" for FSPainter, there will also pop up some basepacks. Also try a search for "fsp_mdl_update_010418-zip". I don't know really if there are any differencies in them. I also think it's the same models you can get at fsrepaints.de.You may also take a look at the new verion2 of T Urakawa's 737NG series 600/700/800/900, you can get them here: http://www.cam.hi-ho.ne.jp/urakawa-t/index2.htm.Here's how I fill up my AI hangar (in preferable order):1: Aardvark2: T Urakawa's models.3: FSPainter.4: ARNZ5: CDAI5: PAIThey all have pro's and con's in regards to quality, framerate, install routine and so on, but that's how I do it. And not to forget the superb MRAI installer for both airlines and textures.
