Area 51 C-5M Super Galaxy

Featured Replies

Hi,

I purchased this plane thru PC Aviator (download) in October. I experienced all types of problems. PC Aviator sent a disc. I got it installed (don't remember how) before receiving disc. I attempted to flyFriday & received the following error message "Aircraft Intialization Failure Area 51 Sim C-5m Super Galaxy". I uninstalled & reinstalled. Still having the same problem. Can anyone help?

Also, I have never received a response from Area 51 Support in October/November regarding the original issues. I have sent them an email regarding this issue.

Thanks in advance

Calvin

Sounds like the aircraft.cfg points to a wrong texture folder or the name of the *.air file doesn't match the name specified in the aircraft.cfg (but I think that would give some different warning).

Thanks for the response. I am not a "tecky" person, so what do I need to do to correct the problem?

Easiset might probably be to post a screenshot of the contents of the C-5 folder in your FSX/SimObjects/Airplanes directory, and also attach the aircraft.cfg of that plane to your post, so someone can take a look at it. Otherwise check the following: In the aircraft.cfg you should see entries for each livery the plane comes with; every single entry should have a line saying "texture=*filename*", where filename refers to a subfolder in the C-5's folder, which has the exact same filename as specified in this line, except that it has "texture." in front of it. You'll have to check if all the texture entries match those filenames.

You should also see a line "sim=*filename*", which refers to the *filename*.air file (i.e. the flight model). Be sure that this file ahs exactly the name as it is specified in the "sim=" line.

Maybe missing gauges could also cause this, but I'm not sure about that.

This means that your aircraft.cfg for this aircraft is missing an aircraft texture. Open up your aircraft.cfg and look through the various Fltsim XX entries. Each [FLTSIM] entry will show a different texture that is located in the C5A folder. Look at the texture line in each [FLTSIM] entry and delete the entry if the texture folder is no longer installed on your system. You might have a texture folder entitled Texture.usaf or Texture.BOE, etc., and the texture line in the [FLTSIM] entry will show .usaf or .boe. If that texture is not there, then delete the whole entry, save the aircraft.cfg and go fly.

Best regards,

Jim

HI,

Thanks for the responses. I don't have a clue where to find these files you are talking about. Can you tell me how to access them?

Below is the contents of the download.

model, panel, sound, texture folders, paint kit (zip file) FLIGHT OPERATIOS MANAUAL (PDF FILE), C-5M (Air FIle), Aircraft (CFG File, which doesn't open, Internet Explorer) & an Uninstall.

Thanks

Calvin

Did you try to open the aircraft.cfg with some text editor? It should actually open with that.

Florian

Aircraft (CFG File, which doesn't open

All configs open. You have to right click the aircraft.cfg and select "Open With". When the dialog shows up, click on open with Notepad. The config will open up and you'll be able to edit it as I described above. The fact that you have not opened the aircraft.cfg and made modifications in the past indicates to me you did not install the program correctly. Did you right click the Installer for the C5A and select "Run as Administrator"? That might help. Not all of the textures may have installed so the aircraft crashes when you try to select it. I would uninstall it and then try a reinstall.

Best regards,

Jim

HI,

Thanks for responses. The aircraft did originally work. I think I did try to open with note pad & it was just garbled. I've tried so many things. I won't be able to do anything else today. I have to go to work shortly, so I probably won't be able to try any of this until tomorrow evening. I'll let you know what happens tomorrow evening.

Thanks again,

Calvin

If it worked before and you tried to unsuccessfully open the aircraft.cfg, then the config is most likely corrupted. The easiest solution would be to uninstall/reinstall it althought the tool provided by Gear Up and Off will help identify any errors. Just be careful though with this tool as it scans AI aircraft too and many of the items listed as errors are really not required for the AI to run. Take your time and good luck!

Best regards,

Jim
