Glad to see you got it working Luke!!

Well Sean...I owe you a beer

Next time I am in the UK i'll take you up on it, lol.

It can be a little misleading, as after i resized the image/Alpha and loaded it back into DXT it would still say 4096x4096 in the window header, but a little pig headedness went a long way here :) ..i ignored it and saved it anyway and it worked

You can check it for sure by taking the saved .dds file and dropping it back in to DXTBmp to see if it then says 1024X1024. Like you mentioned, after you reload them into DXTBmp after resizing them I think it will still say 4096 or whatever the original was just because it doesn't yet know you reloaded resized textures. No problem though since you can re-drop it into DXTBmp to double check.

At least know you know what to do and can do all your liveries like this if you need to. Plus, now that you have some experience doing it, if you have any addon sceneries that shimmer or have really large textures with alphas, you will know how to deal with it. For the sceneries that shimmer, all you need to do is drop the textures into DXTBmp and simply resave it as the same format as long as you have the Mip square button checked. Same could be said for addon liveries that shimmer or if you have a cloud set you want to resize, the same applies.

Lastly, one other trick you can use that I learned from FSDreamteam, is if you have an airport that is really demanding on RAM and sometimes FPS, you can load the textures one at a time into DXTBmp. If you see some that dont have an alpha channel which show up as just a white texture sheet in the alpha box, and they are in 32bit, DXT5 or DXT3, you can resave those as DXT1 and it will cut the file size (weight) in half while still maintaining the same look of the texture. Doing this will free up a lot of VAS and memory, hence improving the loading time and performance of the scenery. Not sure why all devs dont do this already (FSDT does), but it makes a difference. As an example, I just bought LatinVFR's KSAN which is a nice looking airport, but on my rig the loading times were really slow when I changed views. So I changed all the textures that were DXT5/3 with no alphas to DXT1 saving as DXT1 with aplha and resized the few 2048 textures to 1024, and voila , the scenery now loads instantly when changing views and basically still looks the same :-)

Take care and enjoy your flights.

Sean
