September 4, 200421 yr Hello,I have a problem (and have always had it...) in the VC of all of the airplanes: the refresh rate of the instruments is way low than the 2D instruments'. For example, when I change the RPM, the tachometer's needle doesn't move smoothly to its new value, but stays a bit in its old situation and then moves rapidly to another value, and that way, it is very hard to set or control anything in the airplane.Does everyone has this problem, or is it only me???If it is only me, is there any way to fix it?Thanks,Guy.
September 4, 200421 yr I think this is a 'problem' in all VC's. This is one reason I usually don't fly in VC mode,(besides the poor frame rates on my PC). Unfortunatly I don't know if there is a way to fix it as i think it is just a downside to having a 3D cockpit. Other more 'informed' people may have a few ideas though. :)
September 4, 200421 yr Thanks!Hope it has a solution, because the VC can be much much better than the 2D panel espacially in VFR flights!
September 4, 200421 yr The core problem seems to be FS itself. However, the problem varies in severity from aircraft to aircraft. Some VC's update very slowly, others are pretty good. Framerate doesn't seem to matter - I get the same refreshrate of VC gauges no matter if the scenery itself is updating at 10, 30 or 60 FPS.Here are some aircraft I have that I found to have very smooth VC's (most are payware):Aerosoft DA20 Katana (this is one of the best I've seen - almost as smooth as the 2D panel)Australian Simulations Warrior II/III package (especially the Warrior II but the Warrior III is pretty good as well)Flight1 C152Dreamfleet C177 and Archer IIThe Aero Commander series and Howard 500 by Milton Shupe and others (freeware!)Some that I have that are very slow in VC mode:Carenado Bonanza and C210RealAir Scout and SF-260Piper Navajo Panther by FSD-InternationalIn the case of the RealAir Scout - it doesn't matter that much since you don't rely on instruments - still, smoother gauges would add to the realism. In the case of the Navajo and Carenado planes - I use the 2D panel when flying IMC and the VC view when sightseeing. A smooth VC for those planes would make them far more enjoyable. If you fly primarily heavies, I don't recommend the VC at all. For GA and bush flying however, the VC is a great feature since it gives a much better view of the scenery. It's interesting that few reviews mention smoothness of VC gauges - I think it's an important factor in determining the overall usability of the VC. I would never give the VC of an aircraft more than a 5/10 rating if gauges update slowly, no matter how good the rest of the VC looks. -
September 4, 200421 yr Thanks for the Reply!I am using the C177RG most of the time, but it also has the problem, although you sad that its hasn't...Maybe its something with the graphic accelarator? I have a GF4Ti4200...
September 4, 200421 yr Author I do not believe that any aircraft are immune to this behaviour... they all have slow, jerky refresh of the VC instruments. Some may be better than others, but the main issue seems to be FS9 itself. Bert
January 27, 200521 yr Author Let me amend this reply... As has recently been documented, the number of VC windows in the panel.cfg file has a strong effect on VC gauge refresh rate.If you want to test this, blank our all but the first three VC window definitons in the RealAir Scout and it moves for the "bad" column into the "good" column! Given that the RealAir Scout and Decathlon have about five different paint schemes with individual panels, it is not hard to choose a couple and change only those.. that way you still have the originals to fly as well... Bert
January 27, 200521 yr I fly only from the VC but on a pretty fast computer. It seems FS9 isn't made to be flown in the VC, especially if you have lots of traffic and scenery. But the airplanes I enjoy are RFP v2 742, dreamfleet 727, flight1 ATR, eaglesoft cit X (a little blurry VC but acceptable).
January 27, 200521 yr Please take a look at this thread:http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho...35818&mode=fullThose guys, Bert and JeanLuc know what they're talking about, so follow their advices; throw out some vc windows and get a better flying feeling. You can always use the popups instead, even better if you have multi-monitor setup :)brEagle
