KCGX Meigs Field

Featured Replies

Hey guys,

for those who havn't seen it yet the folks over at Aerobridge have released Meigs Field, an airport that was destroyed in 2003. Great little GA airport, extremely well done   and available for the low low price of ...... FREE!

Has any body tried the new version yet? Although the previous version worked fine, although somewhat incomplete, when I installed this latest version, I find that the little peninsula upon which KCGX sits is now full of trees.  Looks like Mayor Daily got his wish, which was to turn Meigs into a park and dedicate it to his wife!

I started a recent thread here on Meigs Field, which is featured in the current issue of AOPA Pilot.  It shall be remembered by those of us who have been MSFS enthusiasts since the first sales of the IBM PC back in the fall of 1981.  The IBM PC was a great issue of a PC at the time, but lacked compatible software.  The programs available included a word processing program, which I believe was titled "Easy Writer", for if I recall approx $695.  That price in 1981 to keep it in perspective!  The original version of MSFS, which started you off on Meigs Field, was by comparison, $29.95.  At the time you could not find even a scrapped Sopwith Camel anywhere else for a fraction of that price!!!  Meigs continued to be the "home" base for MSFS for several versions to come!!!

I've tried it and find it great, I don't have a previous version to compare it to though. Looking at satellite and photo's though it looks pretty faithful to the real thing. I don't have the tree issue that you speak of but I have my levels in the settings set to a minimal. I find if I don't everything looks like Sherwood Forest all the time
