More Test Pilot work while furloughed from the YMF-5...

Over to Cardiff  with the Gee Bee...

Then to Edwards... 500,000ft + in the X-15-1

Then a run from SBSV to FHAW (we don't need no stinkin' L-1011s)

Turning Final (really a bit low here)... gliding in like a proverbial brick..

A possible entry for a jet leg for RTRW 2014?  :O

You are insane...

Ready to be "unfurloughed?"

yep... aye cap'n... ready ready

All work and no play makes RTWR members ...   (Insert answer here)

Been working hard on our F-111 panel steadily since the end of the race. Here's a screeny of the now working Terrain Following Radar (AN/APQ-134), fully animated, contrast and brightness controls, memory etc.. It only took 1750 lines of XML script!

Haha, I flied that thing on my iphone xplane app all the time with before I played FSX.

Nice one, Roman!

You could always relieve your writer's cramp with some flying.  Rob and I usually fly on DC's server (thanks, DC!) on Fridays.  We've made it to Marseille in our Waco's on the great journey south, and have also been brushing up on our carrier quals with some of Mr. Cattaneo's works.

Craig,

Yeah, been itching to get in some fun MP flights, will look for ya'all online. Rob should change professions, maybe a move to Hollywood since he's making all those new movies! LOL :LMAO:

Gents,

Needed to do some static thrust tests. Previously just modified the flaps so they where a football field wide with an unbelievable amount of drag. Even that didn't work, Completely for got about the Accel version of FSX for carrier launches where once the launch bar was set the aircraft didn't move ( Net Thrust = Gross Thrust + Mach Drag ( no matter how small the number (inches/sec even) ) ) So here's a little video of a cat launch of a pig. I did 2 successful traps on the same carrier, didn't record those as I was using a new video catch program called oCam, but they where not easy whatsoever. Only a couple of F-111s ever did do trap tests. It's not surprising why the Navy opted out. It's a tough run. Not sure of our latest release has the updates for trapping but anyway, here's the launch.. BTW the music in the background is pure coincidence. (fitting though)

Still at Work, Work, Work..

P.S. While on break, putzing around I will record a a carrier trap.

The TFX was the result of what you get when you let beancounters make requirements decisions at the Pentagon.

Enjoyed that!  Reminds me of some things I was doing with Flight Deck III in FS2004, seeing if I could launch everything from CRJs (yes!) to 747s and 777s (no!).

Good taste in music, by the way.  I used to have that on 8-track (he said, dating himself).

I've been sucked away from flightsimming by SimCity 4 (cheap on Steam) and Bioshock Infinite.  Need to get back in the Waco.

Ya know, my last landing was a tad right...

Been fighting some stutters in PNW with the RealAir Duke + RXP 530.  Not sure if it's my PC, the AS12 SP2 update, or just the drag that PNW and the Duke place on the machine.  Very frustrating, but it's turned FSX into a stuttery slide show on take-offs and approaches - even in places outside of Orbx scenery.  I'm gradually adjusting display quality down to find an acceptable performance level, but I still see some big swings in the FPS, from down as low as single digits to my locked 27 FPS, every few seconds or so.  Grrr.

Until I can get that sorted, FSX is no fun to fly in.

Right of?

Sorry to hear about the FSX problems. I know that can be very frustrating. Hopefully you can get it sorted before the Western Roundup. I was thinking too the Duke for that.

Umm...the centerline?  Just having a play on words.

Yeah, I've read that the combined Duke-Orbx-RXP can be hard on good systems, and mine is just mediocre. I may try ditching the GNS to see if that makes a difference. If not, it may take a downgrading of the Duke (which I would prefer to. avoid).  I don't really have a good 2nd choice for rides.

For those keeping score at home, I was able to implement a tweak in fsx.cfg that I found in another thread regarding ATI card performance, and it improved my experience with the Duke in PNW enough that i don't have a slideshow anymore.  I guess I didn't realize what a resource hog the Duke is.  I still can't find a good reason why my FPS cycles like it does, but that may be an just effect of my quad core CPU doing its thing.  I'll keep experimenting with shutting unnecessary processes off when simming, but it's good enough at this point to fly again.
