dx10 and a few settings question

Featured Replies

I have in my cfg file two compenents

MultiSamplesPerPixel=4
MultiSampleQuality=4

question is what influence does these two items have in relation to the ones I already have

like

nividia inspector

A-mode override

A-setting 8xSQ

transp supers  4x sparse grid

In fsx

anisotrpic and af checked

I think your answer can be found here - http://stevesfsxanalysis.wordpress.com/2012/07/17/dx9-antialiasing/.  Steve provides a very good explanation.

Best regards,

Jim

Is there a way to ask Steve about my question

The technical aspects are to difficult for me to understand

paula

From my experience:

MultiSamplesPerPixel=4
MultiSampleQuality=4

- both neccessary to set Multisamplequality

- can be set to 8 for the better

nividia inspector:

A-mode override                         - neccessary for NI-settings to have influence in fsx

A-setting 8xSQ                            - useless (DX10), can be set to none

transp supers  4x sparse grid     - neccessary to enhance AA-Quality in combination with both settings in .cfg

In fsx

anisotrpic and af checked           - neccessary to get AA and aniso-filtering to work

p.s.:  usefull settings from my pov:

- good:

MultiSamplesPerPixel=4
MultiSampleQuality=4

transp supers  4x sparse grid

- better:

MultiSamplesPerPixel=8
MultiSampleQuality=8

transp supers  8x sparse grid

(Multisample- and SparsegridSSAA settings should be the same, otherwise one could encounter reduced quality.)

well I understand what you have but my settings are perfect for my computer.

the only thing i would like to know is the question I put in.

furthermore I am not agree with you that A-setting 8x SQ is useless.

i do not understand why you have said that.

if i change that value up or down, that will give a huge difference.

paula

Reason was, that i tested it on some graphic cards (gtx260, gtx660, gtx670) with different (last 2 whql drivers and the actual beta 314.21).

With none of them there was any influence of the "regular" (not the transparency) AA settings in fsx in dx10.

In some postings through the net i found some similar experiences.

Are you sure there is a difference on your rig in dx10, if you just en-/disable AA in NI ?  ;)))

(not offending! just searching ;))

I was mixed due to switching DCS/X-plane and FSX dx10

you are right it doesnot make any difference

have though no shimmering or other issues

but what I do not understand is your answer in another thread

With your cpu and gpu you can easily activate hight AA-settings (AA enabled in fsx, 8*SGSSAA by NI and 8/8 in fsx.cfg) which will outperform dx9 in quality and performance.

here you let us see that you can use  8*SGSSAA by NI or is this another setting?

paula

Sorry for the late response, weekend and family ;-)

Let me try to clear things up.

There are 2 different settings in NI for AA:

The first one for the "normal"-AA such as 4*S, 8*S, and so on.

The other one for transparency-AA such as SGSSAA.

The first one (4*S etc.) doesn't have an effect in dx10 in fsx on my rig (gtx260, gtx660.different driver versions). In dx9 it does.

The second one (transparency-SS like 4*SGSSAA, 8*SGSSAA..) does very well. I need it to eliminate the shimmering trees and some panel lines.

The settings in the fsx.cfg as:

MultiSamplesPerPixel=8
MultiSampleQuality=8

also have an effect. I need them in combination with 8*SGSSAA to nearly completely eliminate the shimmering.

Enabling AA in the fsx settings menu has an effect.

I need it to enable AA at all.

Hope i described it understandable.

thanks for the explanation

I use also 4x grid and the multisamples 4x

as said before you were right the settings 8xsq didnot work so I put in appl.controlled
