March 26, 201313 yr Hi everyone, I just restarted up my old PC this evening for a chance to re-live the FS9 days I unwittingly ended last year as I got hold of a Mac. The setup I had was immense, with countless AI, tons of scenery, night-time textures and little mods here and there to make it the coolest, most unique program I ever owned. It was working perfectly as I left it last year, but starting it up this evening has caused a huge disappointment. Every time it starts up, there's a message that says 'Initialization failure [insert aircraft name]', it goes to a black screen as if it's passing onto the initial menu, and then a failure message comes up with the dreaded 'MSFS 2004 has stopped working' message. I first thought it was just the Cessna 172 causing this as the initialization failure message showed the Cessna's name, but as I tried opening up other flights (for example a default Vega one), the message just showed up too for those aircraft aswell. I've tried deleting FS9.cfg as some websites have said it acts as a fix, but it still shows up with the same error. Would anyone be able to help me please? I really want to get back into the wondrous FS9 again :( I don't have access to the first install disks.
March 26, 201313 yr Just to clarify, did you uninstall FS9 when you got your new computer? Or is this the same computer and the same installation and all that is different is that it's not been in use for a long time? It might be useful for those who can help to know if there's anything you did with this PC and your FS9 installation between the last time you used it and the current use... This is probably not the answer, but have you tried the freeware FS9 Register repair tool that is available at Flight1??? It would be worth a try Good luck Ian
March 27, 201313 yr This really is going to sound stupid BUT - have you checked to make sure that your aircraft folder is still there? Once, I defragged my HD and lost my scenery folder due to a transcription error. I got some similar errors when it couldn't find some necessary files - and I know I get the exact same error when I try a flight wherein the featured aircraft has been deleted.
March 27, 201313 yr Sometimes the default flight file gets corrupted. Delete it and, should FS9 then start, save a new one.
