Landing Charts, NGX category?

Recommended Posts

Hi.

Which category of aircraft does the NGX fall into on landing charts? I have been using C for my decision height information. Is this the right one,

Thanks.

There's been a fairly extensive discussion of this topic on this forum recently. The resulting conclusion was: it depends. Usually, the 737 NG is a category C aircraft, but under some regulations and with certain types of approaches, it could be classified as a cat. D. You might want to rummage through the forum a bit to see if you can locate that thread.

Basically there are two schools of thought, one group says you choose category by your actual Vapp, in which case 90+% of NG landings are cat C, other say that you choose by Vapp at MLW, in which case 6,7 are cat C, 800 is D and 900 is D as well.

Only one is correct, though, at least in the U.S.  See http://www.faa.gov/other_visit/aviation_industry/airline_operators/airline_safety/safo/all_safos/media/2012/SAFO12005.pdf

I was reading the part in the FCOM last night about approaches, and it said the -600 and -700 are class C and the -800 -900 are class C or D depending on landing weight

Depending on the individual operator's maximum landing weight.

Depending on the individual operator's maximum landing weight.

That would make sense. That way the airplane is always in one category
