New TU 114

Featured Replies

I have just installed the new TU-114 package and I am having problems with the AP. even using the easy Nav group panel for same the Heading Hold and Nav hold features clik on and then a few seconds later turn themselves off. Plane becomes very unstable when making turns and AP acts up. Any one else having this problem?Don

Hi Don,I have had practically no problems with the beautiful 114, but I have noticed that on some occassions, when cruising with HDG hold, switching to the VC or the side views and then back to the 2D cockpit, I find that the HDG hold is switched off. I now check the AP whenever I change views, just in case.Curious to know if anyone else has experienced this.

John

Thanks John for the replyThe Auto pilot works fine for altitude and climb but refuses to turn the aircraft. when I click on the heading hold or nav hold it just immediately turns itself off. since the install is automatic i have no idea what was actually installed. there must be a conflict somewhere. I have no other problems with the hundreds of other aircraft I have installed. I was hoping there was a small clitch in the program and the problem wasnt just mine alone.Don:-(

Hi all I found the problem. It appears the conflict was with my Logitech force feedback joystick. disabling the force feedback feature in FS9 seems to have solved the auto pilot problem. I dont know why but I do know this is the problem. Anyone else out there using a force feedback joystick? Im curious to see if others with a force feedback joystick are experiencing the same problem with this aircraft.Don

Hi,I downloaded the amazing TU 114 by Samdin Designs. But what bothers me, as a 'Wurzel' from darkest Somerset :), is how do you guys manage to read the instruments when the text is in Russian? Am I missing something? I can only speak two languages, English and bad!wizard01Somerset, England

Hey wizThe doc that explains the panel is in english and if you put yur mouse pointer over a particular gauge the dialog box is in english. use the easy panel for the autopilot and its what your familiar with other planes. in the captains panel toward the left side of the screen you will see a small red light just a little below half way from the top. click on it and the english auto pilot gauges open upDon

Hi Don,Will I never learn!! On less gential forums hereabouts they say "RTFM" :) Thanks for reminding me, much appreciated.KenSomerset, Englandwizard01

Ken:-lol Your most welcomeDon

Interesting bird.....however:Unless I am mistaken (which is always a strong possibility) I believe a little work is needed on the weight data and setup in the aircraft.cfg file.Manual says Maximum takeoff weight = 173,500kgIf my calculator is right this is 382,496 poundsThe payload entered in the aircraft.cfg is 800,000 pounds (assuming this is pounds)Manual says empty weight = 93,500kgCalculation is 206,129 poundsThe empty weight entered in the aircraft.cfg is 600,000 poundsI edited to the calculated figures but there are also no stations listed in the aircraft.cfg file, therefore in the FS9 Payload utility payload is limited to zero ("0")and cannot be adjusted.I also added a radio section in the aircraft.cfg file so that NAV2 would function.Would appreciate it if someone would double check my figures and either confirm or correct my findings. The specs do not list the fuel load, so this could be suspect as well. With a zero payload and anywhere near a full load of fuel, the FS9 utility confirms that the bird is way too heavy for takeoff (even though it does so fine). Regardless, the plane flys like a dream. It is going to take a bit of practice to adjust to all of the metric readings and figure out how to implement all of the options for this yank, but I believe this bird is well worth the effort. The lack of being able to read the language seems to be less of a problem than one would think. For those who are into the virtual thing, this bird should send you into orbit. I believe the cabin just about tops the list. A page out of the past as far as luxury is concerned. The panel seems nice too but I really haven't tried to see what works and what doesn't in the 3D virtual mode as this really isn't my thing.Happy flyingRTH

Hmmmm, I installed it yesterday and immediately took it out for a spin over the Andes around Chile. Woah! This is one nice looking birdy. The Russ language is indeed a bit of a clunk but then most of the stuff has english mouseovers. It's big, it's bad and it's beyootiful. 'Nuff said, I says.

Don and others,I have the same problem with heading hold turning itself off as Don did only I am using a CH Flight Sim Yoke USB and CH Rudder pedals and do not have force feedback. Any other ideas? My glitch remains? (By the way, I am glad that turning off force feedback solved Don's problem).Stan V

hi rhodges, you mentioned about a radio section for the cfg.i got the same problem of disfunctuion of the NAV 2. (no bearing indications at all). Can you please figur out the Radio Part ??Thanks for that.myflyer

// Radio Type = availiable, standby frequency, has glide slopeAudio.1 = 1Com.1 = 1, 0Com.2 = 1,0Nav.1 = 1, 0, 1Nav.2 = 1, 0, 0Adf.1 = 1Transponder.1 = 1Marker.1 = 1Back up your original aircraft.cfg file for safety! Then replace the section under radios with the above. If you loose it, I copied this section from the B-52 aircraft.cfg file which is a similar radio arrangement. (If you don't have that plane yet, GET IT).Any other planes' aircraft.cfg file with single channel implementation (no standby freq.) will probably work as well. You may want to add or replace the VOR and/or RMI with more modern conventional gauges as well with whatever strikes your fancy. The original VOR1 gauge only worked for me on glideslope which I assume was the way it was supposed to be and so functioned in the real bird (No Omni reception). In my ignorance, I really had a hard time implementing the gauge for NAV2. So I choose to make the following revisions as well:After I used the above for a while, I installed the Bendix King Radio stack including the autopilot panel. Granted this may not be reality for the original bird, but I would not think that upgrading avionics in the real plane would be much of a big thing either. (I realize the autopilot may be another story). Of course you will need to replace the radio section in the aircraft.cfg file again with an applicable format (Some of the FS9 defaults should work fine). It certainly is a lot easier than CRANKING in all of the frequencies and you have standby capabilities. I retained the original airspeed control provisions which is the just about the best I have seen in a TurboProp plane. My complements to the developer.I replaced the airspeed, altimeter, vertical speed, VOR, and RMI gauges with English scaled gauges. Also added a timer, fuelstat, TS/GS, RWYINFO, FSMETEO, RADAR and a number of shortcut Icons including one for the GPS. I also added a DG. (If it already had these, I overlooked them somehow). One thing to note: If you replace the radios, first look will appear that they will not work (nor the autopilot). The radios, autopilot and probably a number of other things will not function unless your avionics switch is turned on in the easy panel. I would suggest putting an avionics switch on the main panel somewhere. I assume it was on by default in the original arrangement, and turns off after the new installation. I did not notice this switch until I started trying to get my replacement radios to work.In just the past few days or weeks it appears to me that the contributions by a NUMBER OF KIND AND TALENTED SOULS has gone to a NEW LEVEL. With the offerings of this bird, the B-52 GMAX, the Hw500vc4, and L049A Constellation at least some of us are in flightsim heaven. (I am sure I missed a few, please forgive me for not listing those that I overlooked). On top of this, Justin has offered more and more of his mesh as freeware (Yea, I alrady bought all of it, and this is not a complaint at all). New landclass upgrades are also out. Even the miracle of Mr. Gates contribution is just around the corner. Makes one wonder if we even need FS2006. I am not sure we have come near to the potential of FS9 yet.The only downside to this is it is almost too much of a good thing. There is no way that I can fly everything I have now. In fact, I continually am forgetting the procedures for some of my old favorites when I try to go back to them. On top of this, don't know about you but I have become obsessed with these forums and websites. Seems like I spend more time reading than I do flying. (What a pleasure problem to have huh!)THANKS EVERYBODY for making flightsim such a great and enjoyable activity!Happy flying:RTH

Hi overthere, thanks a lot for answering that fast.It works now.I like these old style instruments, as well as the handheldflying.I agree with your statement about the very good flying machinesand scenery add on`s on the free market. Thanks again, happy flying and greetings from the old Germany, myflyer

Your comments about the recent bevy of superb freeware offerings is dead on the money. It's been an amazing three or four weeks (not that what came before wasn't great, but some of the recent releases have really raised the bar imo). The announcment of the upcoming update/patch has got me wondering about FS2006 as well. I'm not a pilot (though I play one on PC :) ) and my knowledge of this stuff is relatively limited. With all the great freeware and payware planes I have (not to mention all the scenery and other stuff I've downloaded) and with the patch coming along to tighten up some loose ends, I'm really not sure I'll need FS2006. I know that's what we all say, but I've barely even scratched the surface of all there is to explore in FS9 and I've had it pretty much from day one. Even in its current unpatched state, it's been one of the two or three most enjoyable sims I've ever owned and it has performed nearly flawlessly for me - no ctd's, solid framerates even on my modest system, etc. I just can't imagine there'd be much they could add to FS2006 that I would actually really notice or be able to make use of.
