April 2, 201313 yr Hi all- Been using this for FSX. Just ordered XPX and know I'm going to want to do a few things, but can't seem to figure out where to look... Basically - at the very least, I'm going to want to add building, objects, and trees around the airports with which I'm familiar. Any help/pointers appreciated. thanks, Andrew H e l p k e e p A V S I M f l y i n g
April 2, 201313 yr Currently, there aren't any tools similar to Instant Scenery which allow you to plop in scenery objects while in X-Plane itself. You'll want to start getting familiar with WED or OverlayEditor. I've used WED to do my airport editing work with good success - its primary task is to create the airport itself (runways, taxiways, lines, etc.) but it also lets you drop in objects as needed. OverlayEditor, I believe, is more oriented towards scenery object placement, and may be a better tool if that's all you're looking to do. I've never used it myself, so I can't really comment on whether it's easier/harder to do. Regardless, the scenery concepts in X-Plane is about as different as you can get from the MSFS world. Take your time with it and start small - you'll need some time to get used to it. -Greg
April 2, 201313 yr Author Thanks! Looks like WED may do it. I'll look more into OverlayEditor as well. I really don't need to modify runways... yet... so being able to place buildings, objects and trees will do the trick. Also, I seem to remember reading somewhere about the ability to lay down areas of trees (rather than individual or in a line) - maybe that was WED? (edit: found it, forest tool.) cheers Andrew H e l p k e e p A V S I M f l y i n g
April 12, 201313 yr Author Hey there - Ok, been using WED. It's fine (though I do prefer to see things as you can in Instant Scenery). Biggest issue at this point is object not showing with previews, and the (relatively) limited number of buildings/objects available through Open Scenery. That said, I do love being able to define areas of trees so nicely... H e l p k e e p A V S I M f l y i n g
April 12, 201313 yr If you don't need to modify runways or taxiways then use OverlayEditor. It is easier to learn and use. Move on to WED down the road. Have fun with XPX. I've been with XPX for about a year now, and never looked back at FSX. Stay with it long enough to learn it, and your way around the XP community, and you'll learn to like it. Jerry
April 12, 201313 yr Author Thanks Jerry! I did read a little about it but haven't tried it yet. Will do so. cheers Andrew H e l p k e e p A V S I M f l y i n g
