September 22, 200421 yr It is bugging me for a while now and I couldn't find an satisfactory answer...It has nothing to do with FS itself, but I thought this forum would be a good place to post it. Although it doesn't affect performance or anything I was always wondering since the very early days of computing, why are this machines so damn ugly? I think you know what I'm talking about...probably the ugliest color ever invented: The computer grey. The mix of light grey with a slight yellowish touch...what to say more? It is just plain ugly. Nothing to add.The fact that this color still is dominating the computer industrie kinda leaves me with my jaws wide open. How can someone possibly have such a bad taste to stay with such a color? Aren't computer companies putting millions into marketing and still staying grey? So who is to blame? Who started this coloring? And why this color? And how long do we still have to suffer until the ugliest color EVER on earth gets banned out of our lifes for good?I stop complaining here, but the list is looong (photocopiers(!)IMHO the ugliest machine ever created...,computer case design, Monitors, Keyboards, heck even cables)!here's the place to let all your frustration about computer looks ing general!:-batlooking forward to other opinions!best,Claudio
September 22, 200421 yr My opinion...you're right. This has nohing to do with FS :-) . Intel 10700K @ 5.1Ghz, Asus Hero Maximus motherboard, Noctua NH-U12A cooler, Corsair Vengeance Pro 32GB 3200 MHz RAM, RTX 2060 Super GPU, Cooler Master HAF 932 Tower, Thermaltake 1000W Toughpower PSU, Windows 10 Professional 64-Bit, 100TB of disk storage. Klaatu barada nickto.
September 22, 200421 yr I don't know. The computer under my desk at home is light grey, the one under my desk at work is jet black, the one in the computer cabinet at my parents' place is white.Apple experimented with transparent cases in all kinds of colours, now has settled on white with chrome accents.Computer store I normally go to has cases in all kinds of colours, ranging from white, grey and black to blue and green (with or without neon tubes).Personally I couldn't care less what colour it is, as it's not in sight anyway sitting underneath my desk.
September 22, 200421 yr well, I took my PC covers off and had them sand / shot blasted to remove that lovely PC grey colour scheme, I got it back to bare metal, then I gave it to my local plating company who Bright Zinc Plated it for me just for ''Tea'' money, I kid you not, it turned out so well that people think I had it chrome plated,it was just something I did one day, but it will now go with any colour scheme by ''girlfriend'' thinks appropriate at the given moment in time . . . LoLSteve.I AM the boss in this relationship, . . . . and I have her permission to say so.
September 22, 200421 yr Hmm yeah I wonder if there's a reason for choosing this colour. Anyone from the industry here who knows? My current case is beige - I bought it because it was cheap and practical and I didn't care how it looked. I've had it since 1999 so it was a good choice I think (It's an Enlight case btw). My next one will definitely be some other colour though - probably silver. I once used a black case when bulding a system for a friend - it looked nice for 1 day but it turned out fingerprints were very visible against the black background :-lolBTW I think this topic belongs to the Hardware forum. -
September 22, 200421 yr Author Sounds like a sweet deal:-) I did also a paintshop on my case. I bought some metallic flame orange (car paint) from a 70s ford pickup and did it by airbrush. Probably the best investment I did in the last couple of years. My room looks so much better now!:-kewlBut we still don't know why they had chosen the grey colour...:-hmmmcheers,Claudio
September 22, 200421 yr My computer, monitor, joystick, speakers, printer, keyboard and mouse are all black and silver. Not bad since they all came from different vendors. And this is my 100th post! :)Jim
September 23, 200421 yr I recently acquired a Jeantech Crystal Blue transparent acrylic case, and transplanted all the components, and with 'glacier blue' cooling fans and heatsink fan, it looks amazing! :)
September 24, 200421 yr And what if this grey colour appears, psychologically speaking, to be the most restful colour for the human eye?Paddy.
September 24, 200421 yr Author That reminds me of those visual "games" where you have a the same colour for example a grey surrounded with a black and a white frame producing a lighter and a darker grey tone. The same with the "frame" of your computer monitor. Any strong colour like orange or yellow will fatigue your eyes. A dark green tone would be best than. But the green would again distort your colour perception when used as a monitor colour and wouldn't fit to good into your office except you have some sort of botanic garden around you:-hah I prefer a black or dark grey finish for the monitor. The colour of the case can be freely chosen.Remember a little colour in your room can make a huge difference!:-sun1best,Claudio@-@
September 24, 200421 yr My computer is under my desk, where very few people see it. What would be the point of having be a different color then the neutral color we are all familiar with. I mean, we are not talking Refrigerators here. The only thing anyone notices when they do see it, is if you have a cool screen saver or not.
September 25, 200421 yr SteveWhatever you do, DON'T sandblast your monitor (at least not the screen part) as it will really muck things up.LOLDavidPS Do I sense that some people have way too much time on their hands?
September 25, 200421 yr Claudio, fly more. Then you'll forget about worrying about the colour of your computer case.Mind you, I have more important questions. Do CH Pedals last longer if you wear shoes, socks or bare feet? And if you wear socks, what colour should they be?Mark "Dark Moment" Beaumonthttp://www.swiremariners.com/newlogo.jpg _________________________ Mark "Dark Moment" Beaumont VP Fleet, DC-3 Airways Team Member, MAAM-SIM
September 25, 200421 yr Hi Mark,>Mind you, I have more important questions. Do CH Pedals last>longer if you wear shoes, socks or bare feet? And if you wear>socks, what colour should they be?>>Mark "Dark Moment" BeaumontThose are very good questions and I will do my best to help but you have to post yer specs first;what kind of shoes are they? PVA, EVA injected, Leather, natural rubber, also, running, Jogging, dress, shoe etc? Socks: Cotton, Nylon, Spandex, Wool or Blend etc?Do they have holes? where? and what color is the carpet that the pedals sit on? Room color may also be important if you have defused lighting and the area where the pedals reside is not in shadows etc.Feet: Arched, Flat, Balls, corns? and of course we have to ask, foot fungus? Nail Fungus? Feet bathed and how often? How much pressure on average is applied say while trying to land in a cross wind? Drink coffee? Married? have kids? how many? etc. Please post yer specs so we can help. :)
