April 9, 201313 yr Hi fellow simmers I have the i5 2500k over clocked at 4.7 on air. I am thinking of buying the i7 3770k and overclocking to similar level. Can you please let me know will I see a large improvement inframes. I have the nvidia 480 ,or should I buy nvidia 680 instead. would an up grade of the graphic card be better instead of the cpu up grade. Many thanks Qas
April 9, 201313 yr I wouldn't think so, but it is a cooler and more efficient chip (I think? I'm still getting back into the loop with hardware after having.my head out of the game for a while.) April 9, 201313 yr No you will not see a large improvement. Depending your resolution and nVidia Inspector settings, you could see a decent gain in a better video card.
April 10, 201313 yr You probably wouldn't see any noticeable difference in FSX performance unless you were willing to de-lid the CPU (see the seperate thread on de-lidding) and use something like the H100i closed loop cooler to max out your overclocking potential. But even then the improvement wouldn't be "large". Regarding your graphics card I would download MSI Afterburner (works with non MSI cards) and use the hardware monitor to see what your MAX GPU Usage is during a FSX session. If you're getting up to 100% then likely you would see an increase in FPS from a new card but again I doubt it would be "large" though FSX isn't just about FPS, being able to run with better graphics settings will improve the overall experience.
