April 10, 201313 yr Hi all, I'm using the iFly 737NG flying offline and i have learned how to fly a SID using the FMC but it's now time to learn STARs. I have the charts that i need for the flight i am planning. What i am unsure about is how to link flying a STAR and lining up for the landing runway on the ILS. These are the charts for the airport i would like to learn (EGPH Edinburgh UK). TWEED STAR (I will be entering the STAR via the MARGO intersection) http://www.ead.eurocontrol.int/eadbasic/pamslight-D6AB5A0EEE939524352092B964D92B84/7FE5QZZF3FXUS/EN/Charts/AD/AIRAC/EG_AD_2_EGPH_7-2_en_2013-03-07.pdf EDINBURGH ILS RWY 06 http://www.ead.eurocontrol.int/eadbasic/pamslight-D6AB5A0EEE939524352092B964D92B84/7FE5QZZF3FXUS/EN/Charts/AD/AIRAC/EG_AD_2_EGPH_8-1_en_2012-02-09.pdf The part i am confused about is that the STAR simply flies you into a holding pattern between the TWEED and TARTN intersections, now in real life would ATC vector you onto the final approach? Since i am not using VATSIM or default ATC how do i go about this, especially with regards to entering this into the FMC? I hope this makes sense. James Bennett
April 10, 201313 yr The holding pattern is based at TWEED, and it's just looks weird at that EAD chart because it looks like it's based at 2 fixes (and it's not). I would say, after TWEED continue at TLA R018 inbound , and then turn right to intercept TLA R323 outbound. At TLA D21 turn right to intercept localizer. April 10, 201313 yr Standard approach to EGPH for RW06 is direct to the NDB, I think it´s using TALLA radial 349. I fly there a lot, and live under the flight path, I can check my charts at a later date. Do that or follow ATC vectors to the NDB. Finals to EGPH are fairly short, not much further out that the NDB. Approach and departure speeds are often at pilots descretion due low traffic volumes and there for ATC relaxing the normal rules. -Iain Watson-
April 10, 201313 yr Author So if i'm understanding this correctly, I'd fly to TARTN, make a left turn onto the TLA R018 then a right turn to the TLA outbound radial which will lead me onto the turn to final at TLA DME 21? James Bennett

Yes, basically that's it. Just do not turn too soon to that outbound radial, fly at R018 inbound till 3-4nm DME. You can use that other solution Hellfire provided, but that's a shortcut, it's not official, but I believe ATC enforcing that as more practical way.
