Poor parking brake

Featured Replies

Hi all... When I use the IFDG A320 in FS 2004 I have a brake problem you may be able to help me with. With both engines running, at tick over, and with the parking brake on the A320 creeps forward until I run into the aircraft ahead or the gate. Any thoughts welcome as this is spoiling a great plane.Bob

Hi Bob,I don't have a solution, but I can add that this happens to me in all kinds of planes. I set the partking brake and then, even at idle, they'll creep forward, almost imperceptibly. I've talked to plenty of other fliers who don't have this problem, so it's baffling me. Isn't the parking brake a yes/no or on/off type of proposition? In other words, you can't apply partial parking brakes can you? There must be a tweak somewhere in a cfg file.thanks,

What do you use to contol the throttle? Check to make sure it is calibrated properly. It is better to go an extra step and when calibrating not move the throttle to the full limits. That way you have extra room to make sure that the throttle is really at idle.

You can also hit F1 to make sure your throttle is fully off.billg

Hi...Thanks for your replies guys, I have tried setting throttle with the F1 key and this does reduce idle to 22% but she still creeps away.I agree that the brake is on or off and have checked the config file and its set to "parking brake available" so no help there.I flew out of Logan yesterday and had to shut down both engines while holding on the threshold - very difficult!Bob

The parking brake applies the maximum braking force using a braking coefficient encoded in the air file, in table 1101 record 12 to be exact. The iFDG FDEs use a fairly wimpy 8.06 braking coefficient (16 is max FS allows). So it's no surprise that you're seeing creep.A value of ~11-12 is more normal for a jet in FS. You'll have to use an airfile editor to modify that value...lots of info available on how to do that on the various forums. The remainder is left as an exercise for the student... :-)RegardsBob ScottATP IMEL Gulfstream II-III-IV-V L-300Washington, DC

Bob...Thanks for your reply, and the potential fix for the problem. As a slightly new boy to this where do I find something to edit my airfile which seems to be written in gobeldegook!Bob

Thanks for that, I will give it a try this evening and hope for the best, no more damaged nose cone in the future....Bob
