April 19, 201313 yr Hi, I am trying the IOS demo and I can't seem to resize a building after creation. I am trying to "trace" the approximate building size at an airport relative to the underlying photo scenery, but when doing so, the building orientation is locked to north and makes it impossible to get a relative width/length measurement.Has anyone found a quick workaround for this? I have resorted to obtaining building sizes by taking measurements in ADEX and using the info in IOS, but seems like a cumbersome workflow - one could really churn through some airports making custom buildings if they could easily obtain the (relative) size of the buildings while creating them in IOS .Thanks. April 19, 201313 yr Have you tried selecting all the parts, "Grouping" it and then "scaling it in all directions"? If you use Instant Scenery you can resize it when you place it. April 20, 201313 yr Author Hi Gregg, I don't use IS (not yet anyway) but I'm sure I could adjust the scale in Whisplacer. I just thought it prudent to get my sizing resolved before I even texture the model. I hope to use photo realistic textures and figured there would be the requisite "tweaking" of those textures once I began adjusting the scale, something I'd like to avoid, if possible. I really can't "group" any parts yet as I'm only trying to get the appropriate sized building base drawn, sans roof. If IOS offered an option to draw the intial building foundation with a polygon type tool (click to add vertice) OR allowed me to re-size and/or reposition the inital model, would be golden. My problem is when I draw the intial building "base" , once I click anywhere to perform the next function, I loose the ability to re-size. I can reposition the base for comparison to the photo scenery but it's all hit and miss on the size. I suppose as a work around I could draw any model to start, reposition it on my photo scenery adjacent to the building I'm wanting to draw, then add a part matching the building footprint for size, then delete the first part. It seems like the author of the tool is unable or unwilling to add the mechanisms for this type of modeling, which again seems like a shame as a person could really get " a leg up" on drawing airport buildings with a sense of scale to the RW version. Thanks for the quick reply. Edit: I should add that I'm a construction contractor so I am used to CAD type building software. I've even thought of using those for the initial modeling and converting it using MCX,. But that's like using elephant gun for the mouse. I was hoping for a quick , less involved tool Regards, Kendall 7800X3D/G.B. Aorus 650 Elite V2.0/32GB GSkill Trident 6000-CL30/Nvidia 1080 Ti./Seasonic Focus 1200W PSU.
April 20, 201313 yr Don't panic. Everything you're asking is covered in the manual. Right clicking on any part will bring up a menu that will allow rotating, scaling, bending and other changes. You can easily size parts precisely when creating them by entering their measurements into the indicated fields in the middle part of the IOS window. Precise values can also be entered if you are modifying a part by moving surfaces, edges and corners. Also, when you create or move something, the measurements/distance will also be shown near the cursor (you may have to activate this feature on the options page). You can also place guidelines, again with precise measurements, to aid in creating and modifying parts. Please a) read the manual, and B) post any further questions on Flight1's support forum, where your questions will be answered by the guy who wrote the program. IOS really does work very nicely. The attached images are from a scenery I'm currently working on, KCMH in Ohio. 99% of what you see was created by me using IOS. And believe me, I'm not the sharpest knife in the drawer.
April 20, 201313 yr I will say this, with the exception of moving/resizing hand placed textures (usually used for things like windows, doors, etc.) you can edit practically anything. It really is versatile in every other way! Right click on it, Transform,..Scale should do it. If you want to scale in one direction then left click on an edge so that you get "Movement constrained in selected direction" then Transform...Scale in selected direction. There are tons of tricks to moving, scaling, aligning. The only object that I have trouble adjusting after I put it down is a roof...I usually delete it and make another. Takes a little patience to learn but once you do you can really get down to build some detailed stuff. In terms of measuring, I use Google Earth ruler tool to get the X/Y dimensions and then make my initial object that big. Gregg Seipp "A good landing is when you can walk away from the airplane.
