W7 64bit Critical update April 23-2013 Issues

Featured Replies

Dear all,

last night applied the latest recommended w7 64bit critical updates after a long night simming..

1) Security Update x64 KB2840149

2 Definition update Win Defender KB915597 (Def 1.149.350.0)

Woke up today after reboot and went to do a quick casual flight in RA Citabria and noticed

some yoke buttons were not working - zoom in/out that i use on all profiles - checked FSUIPC

and reset the aircraft's profile - worked for 2 seconds then stopped - this time when i went to load

FSUIPC from menu i got no response - didnt load - tried to save flight got errors - reloaded FSX

4 times same error each time..

I know FSUIPC was not running as it did not autosave as it usually did

Noticed some unusual window behavior too - all my planes load with 2 windows for my 2 screens but the second VC windows were crashing each time and needed resetting.

Figured id try a system restore to last night when all was fine

Carried out restore to yesterday removing both updates in process, system rebooted - immediately

'warned' me critical updates were now available I ignored these and loaded FSX and once more everything was/is working perfectly -all FSUIPC (sorry cant spell) functions working again, no problems with views and no random FSUIPC crashes

thought this would be important to share

A lot of the Microsoft Security updates are buggy and you did good by remembering the security/service updates were installed.  You could have also uninstalled the updates by going to your Add/Remove programs and clicking in the left panel "View Installed Updates" and then uninstalled the last ones installed.  I got the updates installed too but had no problems (so far).  But, if I do, I know what might have caused it!

Best regards,

Jim

Thanks Jim.. If I'd been in a more patient less annoyed mood I would have removed them one by one and tried to diagnose.. But I wasn't today... I had no problem remembering they were installed last night as my fsx session was interrupted mid flight about four times reminding me to reboot! I just knew it worked fine yesterday so the restore was my go to option for simplicity... Must remember to make them more often :)
