Control Issues with the default Cessna

Featured Replies

Hi Alastair,Yes, at the moment it's set fully to the right. I had moved everything fully left earlier, just to see how this affected the turning moment, but it seemed to be the same.I appreciate what you're saying, and would expect the torque to have this effect. Can you confirm that this would happen in the air also,? (I thought gyro drift had a hand in this, but turning it off didn't stop it.)If this happens in the real plane, how does the pilot counteract this turning force? I don't think the Cessna has any aileron trim(?).Apart from the above, the plane seems somewhat more stable now.BR,Frank

>I've got a question too, though. Why does the trim on general>aviation a/c's in fs (or all a/c's without stabilizer trim)>the effective possible pitch rate? It's totally unrealistic.>The only thing that trim changes is the pressure on the stick.>Is there a freeware or payware g/a aircraft that has realistic>trim behaviour?>>Claudio Yes, Force Feedback tied to FSForce addon makes then all a lot closer to reality.Allcott

hi frank, haven't read all the replies yet so don't know if this was mentioned or not but make sure the fuel tanks are evenly balanced AND try just carrying one other passanger up front and with both weighing the same amount. william

Thanks, William, will do.Sorry if I've been a bit slow to reply to all your mails at the moment, as I've been playing with my newly upgraded PMDG 737NG!. This thread has helped greatly in improving handling of the Cessna, and I will do some more tweaking tonight.By the way, any more recommendations for a payware or freeware aircraft that I could try?BR,Frank

HI Frank; If you are already aware of this I'm sorry for stating the obviousbut in a single engine prop A/C the higher the power setting andangle of attack are the more the craft will try to rotate to theleft. Also the lower the airspeed the more pronounced the effect. The gyro drift setting is for gyro compass precession and has noeffect on the A/C. You didnt mention wether you have auto rudder enabled or not.If your flying with pedals or using rudder control on a joy stick, you'll have to compensate with a fair amount of right rudder. When you level off you can add a little rudder trim. Again I'm sorry if I stated the obvious.DN

Not at all, DN, I've learned something from every reply posted here! :-). I am using an MS Sidewinder Pro without Force Feedback, and I am using auto rudder. How do I set rudder trim, please? The Sidewinder allows for elevator trim only, as far as I am aware(?)Thanks again,BR,Frank

Hi Frank; While I'm reasonably certain that the real 172 does'nt have ruddertrim, the SIM does.;-) If you don't want to assign a joystick command for it, the keyboardcommand is Cntrl+Enter for right rudder trim, and Cntrl+0 for left. These commands are entered on the NUM keys.BTW in my experience its next to impossible to get the default 172trimmed so as to fly "hands off" completely. But you can trim it enough so you don't have to make constant correction. DNPS: Forgot to mention I use the CH yoke and rudder pedals and withmy setup I find it necessary to run the controls thru a couple ofcomplete cycles of movement when first entering the Sim or theydo all kinds of weird stuff. It's almost like fs9 has to recalibrate the range of movement.

i was using auto rudder but hooked up my wingman extreme with the twist handle rudder and turned off auto rudder. i now have a left roll in the cessna 182. with auto rudder i never had that problem so i assume it has something to do with the rudder. one or two clicks with the rudder trim does help to straighten it out for straight and level flight. i also noticed before takeoff the rudder trim defaults to a wee bit left of center so i'm going to try centering it before takeoff and see if it makes it fly straight on takeoff and in the air. william

Hi delta november,Wow, never knew that!!I must try that next time I take the Cessna out(truth to tell, I'm deeply involved with the PMDG 737 right now :-)).Thanks very much for that tip.BR,Frank

The Flight1 C172 is absolutely the best light aircraft that has come out in a while! If you want to experience realism in a C172, that is the one to get! Easily worth $25.www.flight1.com

Hi Bert,I took a look at the Skyhawk page, and it looks very nice, indeed!I've downloaded the manual, and will certainly give the airplane my consideration. Thanks,Frank
