FSHotSFX - unimpressed

Featured Replies

What do folks think of this cutdown version of FShotseat? I tried the demo and I am less than impressed. After all the praise heaped on this addon I expected more. What really got to me was the annoying background jet noise that kept on looping over and over when in spot view. I just don't see how anyone could be "blown away" with this product as some have purported to be.Bruce

Tried the demo as well, and when I watched my B314 from outside, FSHotFSX mixed a loud jet noise to the already existing prop sounds. Sometimes I wasn't able to hear anything from a departing aircraft, sometimes the effects seemed to cease after some aircraft took off etc. In addition, I would need too much time to make the product produce the right sounds for my many AI planes (many of my vintage planes have jet sounds with FSHotSFX), so I'm disappointed too (and will not purchase the product for this reason).Andreas

Bruce and AndreasVery strange. I was mightily impressed and happily parted with my money for this addon. Are you sure you've got it set up right? You need to get the set up sorted. Also, you can choose which sounds are attached to each AI plane (although I found that the auto setting got all my AI planes right). So there shouldn't be any problem with wrong sounds. The best place to enjoy this addon is from the cockpit of your own aircraft. The sounds played are designed to sound right as if you are hearing them from there. This results in the most realistic effect. For instance, if your in a queue waiting to depart, you should be able to hear each of your AI in turn, as it's cleared for take off, spool up, and then hear the roar of the engines and fade as it moves away into the distance. Same for turboprops but with correct sound, and pistons too of course. When jets land you can clearly hear the reverse thrust etc etc. The airport comes alive! The most dramatic thing I've experienced with the addon is, once in zero visibilty on approach to an airport, I got a traffic alert from ATC. I had no chance to take avoiding action. Next thing I know, there's this 737 flying very close, couldn't see much but certainly heard it pass very close by. That would have been impossible without FShotSFX.Bear in mind that this addon doesn't provide taxiing sounds. If you want those you've got to edit the appropriate AI sound files, to increase their volume.Give it another go! BTW, I have no connection with FShotseat...just an enthusiastic user.Cheers

I like it a lot too and wouldn't want to fly into or out of a busy airport without it. But it works at small airports as well. You hear the appropriate sounds of small GA aircraft when they land and take off. It adds a lot to the environment.I've had an issue with it losing my registration about once a month since I've had it. When I enter the program, instead of it displaying my name it has a box saying "Register". It won't accept my registration code and I have to email the folks at FSHotseat to get it fixed. So far they don't know what's causing it, but they've always fixed it very quickly each time.Jim

Hi,It's the best addon I ever bought! Wouldn't watch traffic at an airport without it. I've had the occasional "loud noise" problem, but quitting and restarting FSHotSFX has always fixed that. Usually it's due to me either using 4x speed or switching things rapidly - seems to get a bit confused at that point. During normal use it's almost always worked perfectly.Take care,--Tom GibsonCal Classic Propliner Page: http://www.calclassic.comFreeflight Design Shop: http://www.freeflightdesign.comDrop by! ___x_x_(")_x_x___

Thanks all for your comments. If there was a way to edit out the general airport background jet engine noise when in spot view I would give it another go. This noise has a very obvious loop to it and is quite annoying. Less of an issue when in the cockpit but I tend to use spot view a lot when taxiing. I guess I was also expecting to have enhanced engine sounds for taxiing AI aircraft.Bruce

I have used it for about 3 months and love it. Sounds are realistic in my opinion, and I spend a great deal of time at major airports, so I consider myself a good judge of what it should sound like.

Well, I hope you get it cleared up, but this company should be COMMENDED for offering a demo, even if you are not happy with its performance. The Best news here is that they do have a DEMO, which I wished more of the developers did, especially with complex technology, etc, AND aircraft. I feel it would add integrity and pride within their product, and it serves our hobby well. The truth of the matter is that any company can successfully offer a demo prior to purchase, most just CHOOSE not to. WHY???I think if more companies did DEMOS's, it may end up increasing their sales. I know I would probably have more payware than I do now if some of them offered demo's. Especially when they ask what I consider to be higher costs, you would think they would offer a bit more than glorified screenshots. So accolades for this company offering a Demo, for good or bad, it is the RIGHT thing to do, and they should be commended for doing so, even if you don't end up buying their product.Just think how much money you could save by viewing a demo before you bought it. Could save much dissapointment. But I don't expect developers to go down that route, as they are POSSIBLY more happy with the impulse buyers instead of the delayed gratification crowd that does its research before it buys.I wonder why many don't offer demo's. Hmmmm......But think of the goodwill and good publicity of those that do. Trying a demo and not liking it is like trying Freeware. Just delete it if you don't like it, and encourage others to try the demo before they buy it. At least you are not out any money, like many who are dissapointed at the hype.My advice. Practice delayed gratification with every new product. Wait until UNBIASED-(rare) Reviews come out, and see what problems people ar ehaving before you buy. You may save quite a bit of money in the meantime, and be happy about your purchase once you do buy.You can Grab their demo here./DisclaimerI have nothing to do with this company and have never even tried their software before. I did just download their demo from here though./End DisclaimerDemo at bottom here:http://fshotseat.com/Downloads.aspRegards,me ... ....
