May 10, 201313 yr The one nagging issue I have with FSX is the tendency for the program to minimize itself to the desktop now and then in the middle of flying. I can get it to come back but it really doesn't want to. If that wasn't bad enough last night it happened and for the first time when it came back things were amiss. I was flying the Citation X and Auto Pilot wasn't working right and FMS wasn't working right and other assorted things were askew. I tried several other aircraft after a reboot and it was the same no matter the aircraft. Obviously the incident corrupted some FSX files. Luckily I was able to restore the computer to before the incident and everything is fine for now. I traced the problem to McAfee. Every time the minimization happens this program Mc Shield is always starting to run. I have game booster but it won't let you exclude this program and there is no single on-off switch to turn down Mc Afee for a temp period. You have to go in and change settings on individual components one by one. having done that I'll see if I still have the issue. So my question is has anyone else run into similar and if so what was your solution? May 10, 201313 yr I think most people who use FSX (and even FS9 previously) have made a point of removing McAfee & Norton as they are resource hogs. Personally I just use MS security essentials. Mark CYYZ
May 10, 201313 yr The secret is to 1). Install Microsoft Security Essentials, from here: It is continually updated, runs seamlessly, and is very configurable, and does everything that any of the other a/v solutions do. 2). Next, install MalwareBytes from here: it is the #1 application for doing just as it's name says. 3). If you don't like MalwareBytes, MS has a tool to replace that, too - Microsoft Security Scanner, available here. Neither of these apps will interfere with FSX. Any copy of Norton being installed closer to my PC then 100 nm I will track down and destroy. If I find out my neighbour installs Norton, I will sue him and if I lose at court I will sell my house and move to a Norton-hating neighbourhood. Norton is the worst thing that can ever happen to a PC.
May 11, 201313 yr Author Thanks for the advice. After putting the machine back before the incident happened the database for the Citation X and CJ1 were still inoperable. I had to re-install both aircraft and now everything is working as it should. "Why, he just jumped into the air and kept right on going."
