May 10, 201313 yr This is certainly not something one would want to do in the real world, but in FS9 I have an aircraft (747-200/300) whose take off and climb performance seems realistic enough but which stops in a ridiculously short distance on landing. I have tried leaving auto-brakes off and even not using brakes or reverse thrust at all, and it still stops in a little more than a thousand feet. Is there any way I can tweak it that won't mess up take off and climb performance? It's a bit anticlimactic to bring in a 747 at FlyTampa's wonderful Kai Tak and have it trundle to a stop in about the same distance a DC3 would use... B) Thanks Ian
May 11, 201313 yr A couple things to look at before going any further - I am assuming spoilers are up on the landing roll? If so, try without them and see if the landing run seems "normal" . -Or- Are the wheels stuck in the ground? IE. not fully on top of the runway surface? After that you will be able to pinpoint where the unnecessary drag is coming from, neither of which should have any effect on the t/o (it might shorten if the wheels are the problem) ,climb nor cruise performance. May 11, 201313 yr Sounds like spoiler drag at the moment Ian......try a landing w/o spoilers. My FS Videos
May 11, 201313 yr Author I landed with no spoilers, reverse thrust and brakes and sure enough, it did use most of the runway, though in reality it still stopped within what would have been a realistic distance with spoilers and reversers deployed and brakes used.... I will play around a bit more and if I can't fix it, I can live with it. It's not one of my "must have" addons so I will probably just put it back in the hangar where it has been the last year or so.... Thanks for the suggestions guys Ian
May 11, 201313 yr Hello Ian, I often find in airfiles that the spoilers have a fairly large drag element whereas I think the negative lift element should be more important. I wish I knew more about the dark art of FDE's myself. :Nerd: My FS Videos
