A ***BIG CAUTION*** when installing the patch!

Featured Replies

I started the patch and after an hour it was still installing!? I thought this couldn't be. Must be something wrong. So I "canceled" the installed, re-booted, and started the patch again. Well, it told me "looks like you already have the patch" and stops automatically! Do not stop or cancel the cancel or stop the install! It will not allow you to try again.I now have re-install flightsim 9 from scratch and then re-install the patch. :( Just didn't want others to go through the same pain.

I know your pain. I just went through this as well. I am up and running again with all my addons but it required some work.

By the way the file that the installer choked on was ABLSCPT.DLL located in the Modules folder.

Well, luckily I took an ounce of prevention and did a "Drive Image" of my entire FS drive before I started so I was able to do a quick recovery and start the patch again. Yea it's taking it's sweet time on ABLSCPT.DLL right now as we speak but this time I will just let it run and run and run. ;)

I think the `already installed` message comes after interrogation of file version numbers in the modules folder. So back up the entire Modules folder before beginning, then AGAIN after installing any original *.dll files required so you have an option of reinstalling the patch again by replacing the Modules folder.Allcott

Hi,If you want to run again the installer after a aborted installation you have to remove the file "unpatch.bak" which can be found in the "Backup" folder located in your FS9 root folder.Hope this helps.Greetings.Vincent Mellinger

Ah, good catch, Vincent!Allcott

Hi. I installed the patch and flew about a bit then tried flying over the 'new' JFK airport to see what the buildings were like. In spot view the frame rates dropped to 5 or 6 which i didn't think very good so i uninstalled it(the uninstall .exe is in the root folder) and tried again. this time frame rate varied between 18 and 38 (in spot view )so i think i'll leave the patch until they patch it.:-hmmm

Those that have sucessfully installed the patch with little or no problems.2. Those that have had problems and either fixed the problems or uninstalled the patch. In some cases they have had to reload FS. What I haven't read much of, are people claiming that after the patch FS9 is working better than it ever has and that they see dramatic improvements in the Frame Rates, and the patch was definetly worth loading. I haven't installed it because I just don't think it is worth the gamble. MS still is having major issues with SP2, that they can't seem to resolve, and that has been out for weeks. I'm going to see how this Beta test of the patch works out.

Hi BobThere appears to be some confusion as to how to install the patch with Simmers having to unstall FS2004 or uninstall the patch etc.The message I am getting from Microsoft is that in order to install the patch you have to start with all the original files, not a "No CD" program and not have files that have been modified.I guess what I am saying that if you have loaded FS2004 and did not mess around with any files, and use Disk #4 which comes with the program to load FS2004, your install will likely go without a hitch.I know that this has been mentioned numerous times, but take the time and read the support page at the Microsoft download page which will instruct users on how to move the original files from your original back into the proper respective folders. After the install if you want to check which version of FS2004, just bring down the Help Menu and click onto About Flight Sim 2004 and it should read Version 9.1Take care and good luck to those still having problems.Kenny G.

Bob, you must be doing a lot of 'selective' reading if you haven't read "much of ..". There are in fact a LOT of happy simmers that see big improvement after patching. Don't use word "dramatic", they ain't but the patch was definitely, positively, 100% worth loading (well on my DSL it took 2 minutes ..).Michael J.WinXP-Home SP2,AMD64 3500+,Abit AV8,Radeon X800Pro,36GB Raptor,1GB PC3200,Audigy 2, Omega 2.7.90 (4xAA 16xAF)

Before reinstalling all FS9 try to delete the "BACKUP" folder after the uninstall of the patch.ByeMario
