What is the best hardware currently

Featured Replies

Hello everyone,

I’m changing for new hardware for my new computer in FSX. I would like to hear your comments before I buy. Do not want to make mistakes. I know of his vast experience and knowledge.

I’m thinking of buying a system board ASUS P8Z77-V, had the intention of purchasing a ASUS Maximus V EXTREME, but did not find any difference representing FSX improvement. Think it worth buying the V EXTREME? ($ 120 VR $ 380).

I buy a fast memory 8GB G.Skill DDR3 PC3-21300 2666MHz TridentX.
Will I be able to take this speed 2666MHz with 2700K or 3770K processor?

The theme of the processor is one of the more doubts I have generated. I would think that the 3770K should be better than the 2700K but I read for weeks on various sites and many say it is preferable for OC 2700K. I want to get to 4.8GHz. (5GHz would be my dream). What do you think is the best?

Currently I have a EVGA 660TI. I do not change the graphics card for now since I have recently purchased.

I need to know if the combination of my wishes is the best or if I should correct. Please your comments.

I appreciate your help.

To get near 5ghz with either the i7 2700k or the i7 3770k, you will need custom water cooling. For the speed of that ram, you will want to go ivy, to take full advantage of it. If you decide to go sandy bridge, get the 2600k. It is essentially the 2700k with a lower clock speed.

Hi Snowingairlines

I want to know if I understood well. I say that the 2600K is best piece for OC?.
If this is so, what would be the memory faster than the SB-2600K can support?

NOTE: I already I have a good water Corsair for my future processor.

The 3770k will do around 4.5GHz on air.

With de-lidding it will do close to 5GHz on air, depending on the chip you get.

I have an NH-D14, does 4.6 max, without de-lidding.

So no, I don't believe water cooling is a must to get close to 5GHz. In fact, many that haven't de-lidded the 3770k still can't clock much higher than 4.5-4.6 even with a custom water cooling set up.

Ivy bridge hits a brick wall, due Intel's thick layer of TIM under the heats spreader.

A Corsair all-in-one water cooling set up, is NOT the same as a full blown custom water cooling set up. The Corsair cooler isn't much better than the NH-D14.

I would say that i is, unless you have a micorcenter near by. They have the 3770k for 220, which at that price is the cheapest of any of the k processors.

No, I would say not...

The 3700k is a FASTER architecture.

OC the 3700k to 4.5 and it's as powerful as the 2600k at 4.8.

Furthermore, you would have the option to de-lid the 3700k and nudge it up closer to 5 GHz. In which case it would surpass anything the 2600k could achieve.

Why settle for old technology?

Martin-W, that's exactly my thought. I also think that the new technology should be higher and that the 3700K in OC should be better than the 2600K or 2700K, but it seems that there is much discussion with this topic. Something I've seen very commonly is that say the 2600K clock speed is better than the 3700K. But when I think I can also balance this aspect when you can install RAM up to 2666MHz. Something that can not handle 2600K.

Ivy Bridge without a doubt has a faster architecture, this is fact.

In addition, there are memory advantages to Ivy Bridge.

The 2600K clock speed is NOT better than 3700k in terms of performance at the same frequency. Anyone who says it is, is ignoring fact.

Some people think frequency is paramount. They forget that new CPU architectures are more efficient. Frequency and architecture are both important.

I have an i73770k at 4.5 GHz. To be honest, I have found no reason to de-lid and clock higher. Combined with my 580GTX performance is very good indeed. However, it must be considered that I'm not a simmer that favours highly detailed payware airports, and that I keep sliders set sensibly. The result however, is high frame rate and virtually stutter free. One or two tweaks [that work] in the cfg.

I'm not encouraging anyone to run out and buy the 3700k, as I don't keep up to date with the latest hardwar, when I'm not about to build. Just addressing the point that Ivy Bridge is a faster architecture.

I like you Mr: Martin-w I think the combination of a good memory of 2800MHz with 3770K @ 4,5 Ghz can get to give me the best performance. And if I see that I need some additional retouching, we remove the lid and climbed to 4.8 Ghz.
