Intel 2 quad 9550 CPU fsx performance?

Featured Replies

Most likely not.

One of PC's still has an e8400 that's OC'd to 3.6 up from stock 3.0 quite easily and that runs nicely. The q9550 starts with a lower clock at 2.8 or thereabouts and doesn't OC as nicely.

Maybe try OC'ing your dual core first as I think you'll get a better performance hike. You might also want to consider video card updates. I went from an ATI 4870 to an Nvidia 560Ti and there was a good increase in frames with heavy clouds.

My specs are posted. Having run FSX on a variety of machines both AMD and Intel I would say that your specs are not adequate. 5-10 FPS is basically a slideshow, not a flyable sim. I would google Word Not Allowed's hardware and software guide and visit Jetline Systems for general hardware and software advice. Running FSX with PMDG NGX and 3rd party scenery such as my personal favorite, FlyTampa's KMDW at good FPS, requires a custom built and configured PC. Currently, the minimum specs are generally considered to be a "K" version I5 like the 3570K. It needn't cost the earth though. You should be able to stay around $1000 if building yourself. Cyberpower PC is a budget custom PC builder that I've used in the past. Off the shelf PC's are very limited in what you can do as far as upgrades.Good luck and regards.

Is it worth the mony upgrading from a dual core 3 ghz I get about 5-10 fps I. The ngx at flightbeam kphx

I'm on a Q9650 at 3.7Ghz and I generally avoid the NGX unless I'm in an area that is easy to process--like the Hawaiian Islands where though you might have nice addon terminals (FSDT) like I have you are surrounded by easy to process ocean.  I get 22-25 while taxiiing then up to 30fps when off the ground.  When I fly over continental areas I fly the very nice CoolSky Super MD80 and QW757 and Turbine Duke which all fly fluidly on my system.  I think the NGX needs something more potent generally.
