June 17, 201312 yr Quick question.. If I understand correctly, AA must be ON in FSX under DX10 preview. With SweetFX, it should be off... ... If you run the two options together, which AA setting should I use? On or off in FSX? Benjamin. Benjamin Van Eps
June 17, 201312 yr AA must always be on in FSX. SMAA is done after the GPU has rendered the image using FSX's AA. If you really want to know what works and what doesn't work, Benjamin - just experiment for yourself, and then post back here, with screenshots: (the "V" key). 1). Run FSX with its AA on with SMAA off: 2). Run FSX with its AA on with SMAA on: 3). Run FSX with its AA off with SMAA off: 4). Run FSX with its AA off and SMAA on: Looking forward to your results! June 17, 201312 yr Hi I got a strange effect with dx10 and sweetfx. as soon as I install sweetfx and use the configurator and launch fsx, I will see in fsx grafics, the line preview dx10 is gone. so fsx/settings/customize/so on the right side are 4 tabs, the first one is preview directx 10 and that one disappear as soon as I uninstall it comes back paula
June 17, 201312 yr That happened to me too, never did find a way around it, so I uninstalled it and went with the settings tutorial on AvSim's DX10 page and I am happy and FSX is stable.
June 17, 201312 yr Author I was going from the readme on the SweetFX that says to turn off the FSX AA. I have tried man different scenarios. What I find I like best is FSX AA off and let Inspector do all the heavy lifting. Of course, this leads to no DX10 preview mode if I understand correctly. I will keep on tinkering. I am getting closer each day. Thanks- Benjamin Benjamin Van Eps

June 17, 201312 yr I tried but cannot get sweetfx working so I stopped with it maybe later if the program will be improved for broader public. paula
June 18, 201312 yr Author Readme in the SweetFX v1.4 folder: Q: I don't see any change in the imageA: Try turning off anti-aliasing in the game (not in the mod) The mod is not compatible with some antialias implementations. It might be made compatible by setting compability flags. If not then you can always use the included SMAA anti-aliasing. I can't get the combination to work with DX10. No problems in DX9. I am not sure why.. It could be the v1.3 versus v1.4? Either way, everything is looking great regardless of the option I choose. Thanks Benjamin Benjamin Van Eps
June 18, 201312 yr ok I have it working now. I tried a lot of things to familiarize with it but I cannot get rid of the shimmering trees and horizontal lines in and outside the cockpit. I use nvidia and tried 4x and 8xs and 8xq and 4 and 8 grid. also checked and unchecked AA within the game I used the default settings for sweetfx which came with the download. also used smaa with and without. I have in the grafics fsx cfg file the two lines with pixels and quality in the same order as NI any idea how to get rid of it? paula
June 18, 201312 yr 4xSGSS in NI, MultiSamplesPerPixel=4 in fsx.cfg 8xSQ in NI and MultiSampleQuality=4 in fsx.cfg Here are my full NI settings. 1.9.7.1 with 320.18 driver I'm using those at this moment, Doeke, and here are many others which I've tried. i7 [email protected] | 32GB RAM | EVGA RTX 3080Ti | Maximus Hero VII | 512GB 860 Pro | 512GB 850 Pro | 256GB 840 Pro | 2TB 860 QVO | 1TB 870 EVO | Seagate 3TB Cloud | EVGA 1000 GQ | Win10 Pro | EK Custom water cooling.
June 18, 201312 yr Thanks Paul, that was really a good shot. it runs ok now . Have still a small question. I use the default sweetfx setting which came with the download. That one is almost fine. The improvent is very slightly, lets say from 7.0 to 7.3 It is the light and brightness and sharpness which is a little better. Do you know which setting I can use to get a little more out of it. I tried several ones as bloom and hdr and technicolor but they take away the soft colors. any help would be appreciated. paula
June 19, 201312 yr Vibrance makes the most visual impact on colour, Doeke, but in general I use only HDR, Bloom and Vibrance, as I there aren't enough hours in the day for me to experiment with Gamma Gain, Tonemap, Curves, and so on. The other artificial effects, like "Technicolor", "Cartoon", etc, I don't even bother with. i7 [email protected] | 32GB RAM | EVGA RTX 3080Ti | Maximus Hero VII | 512GB 860 Pro | 512GB 850 Pro | 256GB 840 Pro | 2TB 860 QVO | 1TB 870 EVO | Seagate 3TB Cloud | EVGA 1000 GQ | Win10 Pro | EK Custom water cooling.
