Makerwys not finding frequencies

Featured Replies

I have a problem with RC4 that I cannot fix.

I have installed a new Airport (FAKN) and as usual, ran RC4 to update the database. However, makerwys (4.6.7.1) has not found the radio frequencies. The ILS is there in the FSX r4 file and in the RC4 data r4 file.

Where would the radio frequencies be in RC4?

I have the frequencies from the developer, who assures me they are in the AFCAD file. And they are in the FSX f4 file. Shown here:

FAKN,Kruger Mpumalanga Intl [NMG],119.00,0,0,119.20,0,0,119.20,119.20.

How can I get them to the correct place in RC4? (Either automatically or manually?

There is a file in your FS folder called f4.csv. In RC4 the fixed one is in rcv4\data.

Please adhere to the following procedure to avoid reinstalls:

Do not start RC until this procedure is finished!

Under your rcv4 folder create one called data-backup. Copy the following files into this folder from your rcv4 folder - f4.csv, rcv3.dat, and keyboard.dat. The last two are essential to avoid reinstalls.

In your rcv4\data folder rename f4.csv to f4.csh. Now copy the f4.csv from your your FS folder to the rcv4\data folder. This will place all frequencies extracted from your installed scenery in rcv4's data.

There is one more file that needs to be updated and I have to research the location of this airport. Do you have links to any charts?

I'll have to do this perhaps much later this evening. This file designates the transition altitude and also the average terrain altitude so RC can assign that for approach. I'll see if there is an airport near there.

I have some information from here:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FAKN

Do you know of a nearby airport that RC knows about? I'll use that transition altitude.

Yes, that is an important airport especially for visitors to Kruger National Park and destinations listed in that linked article. At an elevation of 2,829 ft / 862 m that should be interesting.

It looks like that can be in mountainous territory and you'll probably require SIDs and STARs to fly in and out to avoid terrain.

I located a VFR chart of the area;

http://skyvector.com/?ll=-25.391583333,31.099277778&chart=301&zoom=3

You can see it is on the edge of terrain to the west.

In your rcv4\data folder make a safe copy of m4.csv to that backup folder we made, then open up in notepad or wordpad m4.csv in the rcv4\data folder. Search for FAKM. Insert a line after that as showb below with no extra spaces:

FAKM,4635,7000
FAKN,3300,7000             <<Insert this line>>
FAKP,1318,18000

I am telling it to intercept the glideslope if there is an ILS at 3300 (plus a bias added by RC based on other entries. Save the file as an msdos text type but be sure the name remains as m4.csv. 7,000 will be the transition altitude.

Regarding frequencies for the f4.csv file procedure above, if you only want to add FAKN to the file in rcv4\data, you can paste the one line from the f4.csv file in your FS folder alphabetically into the one fixed database file in rcv4\data. It is your choice whether you wish to update f4.csv for all extracted frequencies from your default and installed scenery or just that one airport.

If you do it this way be sure no extra spaces are added with the pasted line.

Here's where it would go:

FAKM,Kimberley,0,0,122.65,123.8,0,0,124.3,0

Insert FAKN line here
FAKP,Komatipoort,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0

Again, be sure you back up the files as in my previous reply and follow all line format layouts exactly. Use the "open with" option by right clicking on the file name and choose wordpad or notepad, not Excel or other spreadsheet application as that will corrupt the .csv files and when attempting to run RC corrupt rcv3.dat and keyboard.dat.

Since you will only be flying with installed scenery I recommend just copying the entire f4.csv file from your FS folder into your rcv4\data file.

Be sure your makerwys.exe is current and run the scenery rebuild from within RC before starting these procedures. It is only a couple of months ago that makerwys was modified to create f4.csv in your FS folder with scenery extracted comm data.

and today it is version 4.671.

Now the disclaimer :) . This is a procedure Pete Dowson (makerwys and fsuipc) worked out and is not officially supported by jdtllc.com. It is a voluntary option for you to use and we can't take any responsibility for app damages, etc.

I hope this resolves your problem.

Ronzie,

As always, a full and satisfactory explanation.

I will try it later today (Thursday) and let you know how it goes.

Ronzie,

You are a star.

Did as you said and the frequencies show when I open a flight plan in RC4.

Just have to fly it now to see if the IFR details work correctly.

Thanks again.(What would we do without you?) :P

ILS approach works perfectly, didn't hit any mountains on the approach!
