July 24, 201312 yr I downloaded the window 8.1 preview yesterday and all programs and settings work fine except Microsoft Flight and Microsoft Flight Simulator X. Neither will load. I get this message at the beginning screen. "Application has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows … will notify … if a solution is found." The drivers for my Radeon HD 7570 video card are up to date.Others are having this problem as reported in the Windows 8.1 forum. Has anyone tried the Windows 8.1 preview?
July 24, 201312 yr 8.1 is a beta is it not? Then you should probably report this so that Microsoft can fix this in the release version.
July 24, 201312 yr Author Microsoft calls it a Preview but technically it is a beta. It is due for release to the manufactures next month. One would think that their first concern for this upgrade would be that it would be compatible with their own software. Miscrosoft Flight and FSX worked fine for me on Windows 8. The problem has been reported by several users. If I come across a fix, I will post back.
July 25, 201312 yr Microsoft has never seemed all that worried about compatibility to me. We are all connected..... To each other, biologically...... To the Earth, chemically...... To the rest of the Universe atomically. October 19, 201312 yr Author I installed the final release of Windows 8.1 over Windows 8.1 Preview and FSX and Flight were not included in the upgrade. I had to reinstall both. I don't know if you would have the same outcome if you installed Windows 8.1 over Windows 7 or Windows 8. And unbelieveably, Microsoft Office was not included in the upgrade to 8.1 from 8.1 Preview. I had to reinstall Office.
October 19, 201312 yr Hi I installed Windows 8.1 over 8.0 which was installed over Windows 7. Flight runs happily with all Windows versions, including this latest 8.1, I didn't have Win 8.1 Preview though. I didn't had to install Flight again after Win 8.1 installation. Oh, and my video card is made by Nvidia, by the way. I had other issues installing Win 8.1, but that is another story and don't belong here. -eelis-

I had to reinstall Office. That's because Windows 8.1 doesn't support a complete upgrade from the Windows 8.1 Preview. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/update-from-preview You can download the update for free from the Windows Store. You'll be able to keep your personal files, but you'll need to reinstall your apps. Make sure you have any original installation media that might be required for apps that were not installed from the Windows Store.
